Most entertaining “message” movie?

There are so many movies that either outright or slyly promotes some sort of social commentary. So which tells some kind of a life lesson, but still very highly entertaining. This is of course ruling out the auto-bios and stuff that really mean to in a serious way.

my pick:
Shaun of the Dead…I know it lifts so much from Dawn of the Dead (1978), I think this one really slyly does it and very uniquely and of course hysterically, but more effective imo than Dawn. Which of course is one of favs of all time.

very close second:
In The Heights…for reasons see dedicated thread. I have yet to get enough of it.

X2: X-men United is the first movie to come to mind. It was almost 20 years ago and made before the glut of superhero movies we have today but it made a better social commentary than all the others.

is this good movie. Saw 97% on RT but not sure how credible since this is way before RT. But, good? I know Criterion has it. Thinking bout it. $22.xx on Amazon…

One of my favorite movies and it has a great ending. Speaking on behalf of all us little brains.

X Men and X2 become icky in hindsight when you realize that the metaphor probably isn’t about the oppression and persecution of homosexuals, but of pedophiles.

I thought about that. Singer’s reputation really has tainted the movies he was involved in. But, at the time, before we knew what a dirt bag Singer was, the message in X2 played really well.

The Dark Knight: "Sometimes people deserve to have their faith rewarded." Heroism is defined by restraint of power, otherwise you become a villain yourself.
The Dark Knight Rises: Fear is a powerful tool, but pain needs to be moved past. Heroism can come from anywhere.
Groundhog Day: Live in the moment and appreciate the details. See also: Buddhism and "sonder".
Wall-E: Homogenous, corporate consumerism is destroying the planet.
Jaws: Listen to warnings or face nature's wrath.

Unfortunately it's baloney. Shark attacks are very rare and even the book's author Peter Benchley came to regret the hysteria the movie created over sharks.

Though there's still the message about how the mayor wouldn't shut down the city because they didn't want to lose tourism dollars. We've all seen that the past year and a half.
