I was morbidly curious and finally watched the first movie as I found it unedited on YouTube. Plus Walmart is supposedly carrying a boxed set of the four movies on dvd. It made you feel kind of dirty watching it but nothing that made me feel like I wanted to puke afterwards. The monkey brains scene made me think of Temple of Doom.😂

Those involved in the project are now saying that the new film will be a musical.

In theatres April 10. I see Devilshalo posted one trailer, but there was a slightly different earlier one last week, and some updates about the movie today.

‘Faces of Death’ Remake Set for April Release by IFC and Shudder; Director Teases Using Real-Life Violence Like the Original ‘Within the Bounds of the Law’
https://variety.com/2026/film/news/f...ce-1236649833/
I suspect “From The Producer of Natural Born Killers” will turn up at some point, too.
CAST: Dacre Montgomery, Charlie XCX, Barbie Ferreira, Jermaine Fowler, Josie Totah, Sarah Voigt, JD Evermore, Nathaniel Woolsey (I have a feeling this guy will be the ‘host’ or some similar role).
This trailer went up last week, but was ‘removed’ a few times. I wouldn’t be surprised if that was a coordinated stunt.
IFC put this one up about half an hour ago (also posted just before me), now that the news of the theatrical release is out there.

I saw the first few back in the day but as I've gotten older I've become more guarded on what I allow myself to see. I haven't even seen things like the George Floyd video for example and I think there's actually some amount of value in seeing things like that no matter how difficult it might be. No thanks on seeing an updated Faces of Death which I see no value in watching.

Considering the cast members all have decent stuff in their filmographies, I suspect the director’s “within the bounds of the law” remark regarding ‘real’ footage is just marketing shtick and the whole thing will be faked. Mind you, television news has been showing actual death footage of one kind or another for decades now, so I suppose they could access material like that to up the queasy factor. Realistically, they could also fake ‘death’ footage more convincingly and effectively than the original filmmakers with today’s technology. I’m curious to see how it’s handled, but it’s definitely something I can wait to stream or sign out on DVD.

Yeah, I don't really understand who the audience would be for this nowadays. If it is just a bunch of faked videos that look realistic with no true narrative, then who cares? You can find that AI shit on reddit or elsewhere every second. If it is real deaths or atrocities, you can stream any of that with the push of a button now.
What made the original releases so attractive is that you could not see or find gross compilation videos of stuff like that very easily at the time. Or you heard rumors about them, and they were made into urban legends which gave them some weight, whether real or not.
Those days are long gone.
The "me too" push notwithstanding, this is also why you see less nudity or sex in movies nowadays. You can see boobs or porn at the push of a button on the phone in your pocket. No real need to have them in a movie nowadays unless it supports the actual frame of the story. Random nudity is mainstream movies is definitely dead.

^ It kinda feels like this is one of the last multi-film horror franchises with a ‘reputation’ that hadn’t been opportunistically recycled yet, so it was probably inevitable that someone would try to pump some extra mileage out of it. Unlike the originals, it does seem to have a formal plot structure. From the Variety article above:
Not really sure it’ll work at the box office, but I’m curious, and the companies distributing it seem confident it’ll perform. I guess having one of the stars of STRANGER THINGS, another from EUPHORIA and NOPE, and Charlie XCX in what are presumably major roles will draw in younger viewers who fancy themselves being all transgressive ‘n stuff by checking it out.
Quote:
Per the film’s press release, “Faces of Death” continues “the exploration of the original film’s infamous ‘Is it real or not?’ conceit continues as a woman (Ferreira) working as a content moderator for a major video platform discovers what appears to be re-enactments of murders from the original film. In an online world where nothing can be trusted, she must determine whether the violence is fiction, or unfolding in real time.”
My guess is they’ll lean into the ‘Could some of this be real?’ in the marketing but either the whole thing will be faked (but they won’t reveal how they did the more convincing stuff until later) or they’ll really use some well-known ‘caught-on-tape’ atrocity news footage to make a statement about the very thing you mention: the availability of all kinds of unsavoury material at a swipe of the phones that society is addicted to. The heroine working at a ‘major video platform’ is probably their point of entry to thread some commentary through all the unpleasantness.Per the film’s press release, “Faces of Death” continues “the exploration of the original film’s infamous ‘Is it real or not?’ conceit continues as a woman (Ferreira) working as a content moderator for a major video platform discovers what appears to be re-enactments of murders from the original film. Gonna be a hard sell when you have "rekt" threads on 4chan giving it away for free.

I remember trading the VHS tapes along with porn and horror films like Cannibal Holocaust and other video nasties as a kid. I should bring this up with my shrink, now that I think about it.

That ‘uncensored’ trailer looks like the same one posted on YouTube (and in this thread) about two weeks ago on some seemingly random user’s channel where all the other videos over the past seven years had like one or two views. Weird.

I think I saw “Francis B Gross” in that teaser.
I’m sure this is going to be ripped to hell for being exploitative here and in other places. There are mamy here who can’t even stomach a Terrifier movie.

Not encouraging when the original VHS box cover is creepier than the one they came up with for the movie.

I was almost getting RING vibes, and not in a good way, when she put in that tape and then stared hypnotically at the screen.

The original series was so popular because for a long while, nobody knew it was fake. The monkey scene (probably the most popular scene in this series) shocked me.
I actually liked the newest trailer for this one.

This is a quality summary right here. I remember breifly seeing some of the original back in the 70's or whenever but even then it seemed a tad cheesy. Originally Posted by Spiderbite

Like you asked: Who is the demographic for this or this type of material? I wish them luck but I dont see this winning any awards.

That trailer actually made it make sense. Looks pretty good
Other than the stupid "Want to see?" by the lockers thing at the end there.

I was kind of onboard with the first trailers but not so much now with the newest one - will still probably end up checking it out.

^ Ditto. (Although I knew it had to be a 'normal movie,' it's somehow disappointing to see it's a 'normal movie.') Probably a streamer for me.
