I think Thunderball is the only James Bond movie to win an Academy Award(for underwater cinematography,or something).

Goldfinger won for best Sound Effects. Skyfall won two Oscars: Best Original Song and Best Sound Editing. Spectre won for Best Original Song.

RIP

I think the last big movie he did was a League of Exraordinary Gentleman in 2003. I liked it back then though it was kind of cheesy.

He has been out of the spotlight for a long time except for that AFI Salute in 2006 but sad to remember him again in this way.

I loved puzzles as a child, and that was my favorite puzzle!!

I can't describe how much I enjoyed doing that. As an adult I finally was able to buy this again at a convention but the seller lied to me that it was complete and there were actually 3 pieces missing :(

I think it was my favorite since I remember it so fondly. It was cool you were able to find another one but very uncool of that asshole seller.

I seem to remember the story going that Connery turned down a role in The Matrix because he didn’t understand the premise. Once it became a B.O. blockbuster he vowed to never turned down a movie because he didn’t “get it” so when League of Extraordinary Gentlemen came around he accepted the role even though, once again, he didn’t understand the premise.

Turns out he was right about that one.

It wasn't just the Matrix; it was also Gandalf. Supposedly he was offered points on that one too so he not only lost out on what would have been another signature role at the end of his career, he also missed out on a ton of money.

I had the lunchbox with that art, -carried it all through second grade. I still have the thermos, -no lid/cap and a bit of rust, though.

This is one of my favorites. Good psychological drama/police procedural.

Watched this not too long ago, -terrific performance from Connery, but I wasn't prepared for how dark and despairing it is.

Wikipedia says he was reportedly offered $30 million along with 15 percent of the worldwide box office receipts, which would have earned him $450 million.

Ian McKellen was great in the role, but I would be lying if I said I didn't want to see Sean Connery's Gandalf.

I don't think I would have liked Connery as Gandalf.

Like Jack Nicholson's Joker, I think the actor would have overwhelmed the role. When watching Burton's Batman, I have difficulty looking past Jack Nicholson's appearance, voice, and mannerisms. It's Jack Nicholson, not the Joker.

When you're dealing with an iconic character like Gandalf or Joker, I think that going for a lesser known actor and allowing them to grow into the role is better than putting an A-lister in there.

If I was watching Connery play Gandalf, I would have seen and heard James Bond whenever he was on screen.

I'm glad I was able to see him in person during his handprints-in-the-concrete ceremony at Mann's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood back in 1999.

Great career!

Re: Sean Connery RIP at 90

I just watched this Scottish interview show on youtube from around the time the Rock came out where Connery talks about quite a few of his movies over the span of his career before they spend the last five minutes or so talking about the Rock. You definitely get the sense that the Rock is Michael Bay's best movie because Sean Connery is a major star who got his way on more than a few things.
