To save Earth, super-powered human-alien hybrid Captain Rose Corley (Lindsey Morgan) leads a team of elite soldiers on a deadly mission beyond the far reaches of space to the alien planet known as Cobalt 1. This time, to save our world, we must invade theirs. Skylin3s is once again directed by American filmmaker Liam O'Donnell, a producer/screenwriter (who co-wrote the original Skyline) and a former VFX consultant for Hydraulx, who first made his debut with the previous sequel Beyond Skyline; this is the third film he has directed along with Portals. The screenplay is also written by Liam O'Donnell, based on characters created by Joshua Cordes. The film is premiering at the FrightFest Film Festival (online) this month. Vertical will then debut Skylin3s on VOD on December 18th. |

I didn't like the first one that much, but Beyond Skyline was a suprisingly entertaining b-movie with nice F/X. The third installment looks entertaining as well.

I thought the first was an interesting film with a fairly unconventional ending. The second surprised me in that it had good VFX for a VOD title and a cast that I enjoyed (I think the woman from the show Instinct was a main cast member, along with Frank Grillo, the cast was solid). It does not bother me that the cast is new as I will definitely give this a shot when it becomes free for Xfinity customers, or hits netflix/hulu...whichever come first.

Never saw 2. I barely remember the first other than it was okay. Plus there was this huge ad for it during San Diego Comic-Con:

I remember the first because of the lawsuit by Sony (re: Battle LA) which was later dropped.

Yeah, I remember the first one and liked it. Funny enough, not only was there a lawsuit from Sony with regards to Battle: LA and what not, there was some controversy with the directors in that they filmed Skyline at their Marina Del Rey high rise apartment, directed, and did the visual effects for the film. The implication was that they funneled most of the prouduction/post production budget to themselves.
I have not seen Beyond Skyline, so will wait until this one comes out and do a double feature. |

I didn't remember much about the first film.
Watched Beyond Skyline because it had Iko Uwais, Yayan Ruhian & Frank Grillo in it. Yayan Ruhian is returning for this final film and Rhona Mitra is in it. Might give it a watch. |

So it looks like this is coming to Netflix on Thursday.
I just finished watching the 2nd movie today. Lindsey Morgan from the CW show Walker is now the lead. She was teased at the end of the 2nd movie as the adult version of Rose. I guess Grillo's kid in the 2nd movie is also in this as the same alien. I thought the 2nd movie was kind of fun for what it was. The special effects actually looked decent for this kind of movie. |

I purchased this a few weeks back on fandango now using a GC when it was on sale and had no regrets after I watched. It is not as good as the 2nd but still a fun watch. Also, yes...as other reviewers have pointed out it borrows heavily from Aliens and is a bit long (it could have easily been edited down to a 90m film instead of the around two hour film we ended up with) but I finished it in one sitting.
