Re: A favorite movie for each year you've been alive

Oddly enough, I’ve been compiling a list of favorite movies by year. I so far I’ve gone from 2019-2000. I’ll finish my list down to 1980 and post it here.

Re: A favorite movie for each year you've been alive

I don't think you're going to find too many DVD Talkers willing to start their lists from 1960 onwards..... You know the majority of this forum is too lazy. I mean the average age here is like 55 right?

I'll think about this one and try to come up with something.

Ok I thought that might come up

If anyone's feeling discouraged by the number of years, feel free to pick an arbitrary timeframe

At my age, that list would be way too long, although I'm sure I made exactly such a list once upon a time. Of course, it's probably all changed by now.

Good try Russia!

I think I'll just start with TheBigDave's list. Looks like I would agree on several of those so far.

Re: A favorite movie for each year you've been alive

Well, I see 23 choices on others' lists that would also be on mine, so I'm not as far off as I would have thought. (For the record, I'm the same age as Hazel Motes' father.)

Some years were a little spotty for me, so I just kind of came up with a more generic favorite for that year, e.g. 1983 (SCARFACE) and 1998 (RUSH HOUR, for lack of anything else memorable from that year). Even 2001 was tough, but REPLICANT jumped out at me as the one really distinct effort from that year. I just counted and 44 of the 66 were seen in theaters when they were released or, in the case of foreign films, when they were first released in the U.S.

Here goes:

1953: The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms

1954: Seven Samurai (Japan)

1955: Rebel Without a Cause

1956: Invasion of the Body Snatchers

1957: Gunfight at the O.K. Corral

1958: The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad

1959: Rio Bravo

1960: The Magnificent Seven

1961: West Side Story

1962: The Longest Day

1963: It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

1964: Seven Days in May

1965: Frankenstein Conquers the World (Japan)

1966: The Wild Angels

1967: You Only Live Twice (UK)
