That's cool. I always wanted a take on the story wherein Prime and Megatron co-founded the Decepticons. I feel that would have added to the looming weight that Prime exuded in several of the comic book interpretations. The closest was the IDW run where Prime encouraged Megatron (who was a poet and a pacifist) to buck the system under the rule of the Functionists, not realizing how extreme the young bot would later become.

I would hope that it looks like the opening scene of Bumblebee that took place on Cybertron.

Yeah that seems a bit odd... I mean I don't even know of a continuity where they transformed only because of the war.

There were monoformers in the IDW run, but I think all of them became such because they either intentionally removed their transformation cog or because it burned out from overuse.

And, of course, there are Action Masters that don't transform, but none of those are a good idea for a movie where people want to see the main characters transform.

Re: Transformers One - animated prequel (2024, D: Cooley)

Yeah, Monoformers or Action Masters would be cool as part of the supporting cast, but Transformers gaining their abilities because of the Decepticon uprising is a tough sell, and makes me fear there won't be any actual Transformers until the third act.

Re: Transformers One - animated prequel (2024, D: Cooley)

So it's the story of how they became able to transform (or at least the characters we care about, there's a line in there that hints that others can already transform?)

This looks and feels like a kids movie. Nothing wrong with that but I hope I'm wrong because Megatron needs a bit more subtlety than bwahaha I'm chaotic evil now that kid's movies usually get.

Well that certainly isn't what I was hoping for, which was something comparable to the Spider-verse films. If my nephew wants to see it I'll take him, otherwise I'll pass.

Reminds me of the MOTU CG show from Netflix ( which I enjoyed).

I'm guessing the Bayverse or Reboot Bee-verse fans aren't the target audience for this one.

That looks fun to me - I'm a G1 Transformer guy and I saw some fun little things in there (like maybe a Sharkticon at 2:45).

The Transformers beg for a 3D animated movie but so far, they've never had the money/technology - nice to see something with a budget. Looks really nice.

It looks good, at least.

Does it really need that much humor?

Re: Transformers One - animated prequel (2024, D: Cooley)

It does look like a kids film. Which is fine, because I've gotten my kids into Transformers over the last year by showing them the better animated series. But the way it looks, this might not appeal to the more serious Transformers fans.

Re: Transformers One - animated prequel (2024, D: Cooley)

I'm good with just about anything Transformers. I think a new take like this could be fun. I did roll my eyes when the Rolling Stones song played in the trailer, though. Not fond of trailers that rehash songs.

How is it that the 86 film was “for kids” but totally very serious. Now it’s all jokes and quips?

Animation looks fine, but nothing extraordinary.

Re: Transformers One - animated prequel (2024, D: Cooley)

Sort of getting Pixar vibes off of this. I guess I was expecting more of a prequel to the Bayformers movies, and not something that feels aimed at six year-olds.

Which is weird considering it's based on a toy line.

The animation and scale look great. They spent a shitload but it's a kiddie film. I won't see it in theaters. P+ for me. I guess when Prime's balls drop he'll sound like Peter Cullen. We should all be so lucky.

Re: Transformers One - animated prequel (2024, D: Cooley)

I haven't commented since I posted the trailer early this morning.

I'm kind of mixed. The animation looks great. But, tone of the footage and action was all over the place and felt very light and whimsical. It definitely felt like something made for a 12 to 15 year old rather than a more mature viewer. I know not everything has to be dark and brooding, so I'm going to keep an open mind to this when it comes out. But, early impression for me is that maybe I'm not really the target audience of this type of Transformers iteration. But, we'll see.

Re: Transformers One - animated prequel (2024, D: Cooley)

Not for me. Even though, oddly enough, at first I felt the humour would work for me if it wasn't a Transformers movie. Then I realize the the film seems to be aiming for the broader, goofball moments of Transformers: Lost Light, but without the ever present contrasting moments of serious gravitas. And now I want a Transformers: Lost Light movie...

That being said, I am not opposed to this movie existing, similar to how I feel about TMNT:MM. I merely accept that, much like that other movie, I am not the target audience for TO (T1?). And there's nothing wrong with that.

Re: Transformers One - animated prequel (2024, D: Cooley)

The first TRANSFORMERS movie was seventeen years ago. Certainly many of the teen and 20-something millennials those films were marketed to (alongside aging Gen-X-ers of course!) probably have young-ish kids of their own now who would be receptive to this decidedly lighter approach, and the new direction they’ll presumably take this in. Not my cup of tea when it feels like an Illumination show, but I’d watch it on disc down the road for the visuals. Time marches on.

I mean while I love that movie it absolutely bombed and traumatized a lot of kids. I did my part and saw it multiple times in the theater though. Also I would love a Transformers movie like that.

But I think this is just the Dreamworks way, insert jokes and quips into everything to bring in a broader audience than an action film would.

Yes, but I feel like the new Spiderverse films show you can do both in the same and well. The first Spiderverse has actually become my second favorite film. If you just go one route then you’re cutting off a large audience and rewatch ability.,

Even the new TMNT wasn't this kiddie friendly. This new Transformers film is aimed at the 10+ an under crowd.
