Bella Thorne graduates to directing non-porn

I'll give her credit for hustle. There aren't many 22-year-old directors out there, least of all female. But what is an elevated thriller?

EXCLUSIVE: Deadline has learned that Bella Thorne has signed to direct an elevated thriller written by Zander Coté, the plot of which is being kept under wraps.

Thorne is also planning to take a supporting role in the film which will shoot this coming summer.

Eric B. Fleischman’s Defiant Studios, David Bernon of Burn Later Productions, and Maurice Fadida of Kodiak Pictures will produce collectively.
“We are thrilled to partner with Bella on her feature directing debut,”*says Bernon,*“She’s about to leave an indelible mark on the genre, and we can’t wait for audiences to discover her bold vision.”

What the hell is an "elevated thriller"? I guess that means "non-erotic thriller".

I'd imagine that it's a thriller that's more accolade-minded or character-oriented with an overarching theme/exploration, similar to the way The Witch, Hereditary, The Babadook, etc are often referred to as "elevated horror" (although not without controversy). Get Out could be regarded as an elevated thriller, although is also referred to as elevated horror.

I've heard of "elevated horror" and while I get the derision that sparks, I also see a distinction between movies like Hereditary, Midsommer and Us vs for example, Hostel, Saw and I Spit on Your Grave.

Still I have never heard that terminology in the Thriller genre before.

She is fucking cray. Her appearance on Stern was one of the most uncomfortable interviews I've ever sat through. I don't think Howard was prepared for that and seemed to be struggling with her a few times.

Holy shit! This is Bella Thorne we’re talking about. I think those studios may be in for some disappointment if their expectations are Get Out or The Witch quality films.

The rest of us are just impressed that it’s not porn and she hasn’t OD’d yet....yet.

I misread the title. I thought she was directing another porn. Pass.
