Code 8 is set in a world where 4% of the population is born with varying supernatural abilities, but instead of being billionaires or superheroes, they face discrimination and live in poverty, often resorting to crime. Connor Reed (Robbie Amell), a power-enabled young man, is struggling to pay for his ailing mother's (Kari Matchett) health treatment.

Fighting to earn enough money as a day laborer, Connor is lured into a lucrative criminal world by Garrett (Stephen Amell) who works for Lincoln City's reigning drug lord, Marcus Sutcliffe (Greg Bryk). Garrett helps Connor sharpen his powers in order to execute a series of crimes on behalf of Sutcliffe, while a militarized police unit, led by Agent Park (Sung Kang) and Agent Davis (Aaron Abrams), hunts them down.

Comes out December 13th.

I'll just comment to say that it's odd to cast the two Amells in a film where they are not playing relatives. They're cousins IRL but look enough alike to be brothers. I would think that would be distracting in a movie.

This comes out Friday.

Also, it will be spun off as a TV series on the Quibi streaming service

This was actually pretty damn good. Love the world building and I thought the Amells really sold this. Not once did I think of Arrow or Firestorm while watching this.

Definitely down for a tv show or a sequel.

Stephen Amell has garnered enormous good will for me over the years, from his philanthropy to his humbleness when interacting with his fans. I’ll support anything he does.

I also rented this on Vudu and watched it last night. They did a really good job with this considering the low budget. This was made for a little over $2M.

The action was good, the characters were compelling and sympathetic and I was impressed with the special effects.

The Amells were both good in this. I sympathized with Robbie's character Connor. Definitely worth a rental. Probably won't be following the Code 8 sequel series since it's being made for phones and mobile devices only.

This movie is Unrated, but it's definitely R rated material. Very violent with lots of language. Lots of head shots.

Okay, this thread has given me the incentive to watch on Netflix asap rather than letting it sit on my list...sounds like a good film that is worth a watch.

It was alright. Upper DTV stuff.

At least the guy came around at the end. When he found out it hurts the girl to heal and he still forced her to do it I was like uhhhh.

It felt DTV. But not bad. Not worthy of theatrical release though.

I finally watched it on Netflix last night and absolutely loved it. The ending was a little meh, but if they're still doing the TV spin-off on Quibi, I'll definitely be watching it!

I didn't like it one bit. I get what they tried to do but couldn't buy the people with powers being shunned and living in poverty etc. So that basically made the whole movie premise no good for me. They did not show enough to how they controlled them as some could basically destroy the drones with no problems. They would not allowed themselves to be held down that way.

Meh.

Can’t argue with any of that. I just didn’t find the characters to be all that interesting, which is the biggest sin any movie can make.

I watched this back when it first hit Netflix. It was mildly entertaining--not great, but I'll check out the sequel when it drops. I'm more interested in when season 2 of Upload (Amazon series starring Robbie Amell) will come out.

Thats kinda like 90% of the ‘content’ being cranked out over the past several years. Too much, and virtually no staying power. Even Netflix knows it:

The 1st movie was an Indie movie that went to VOD. And later went to Netflix. And I think it came out during your 7 year hiatus from this forum. It came out at the height of Stephen Amell's popularity with Arrow, so some people found it.
