RIP. And last weekend I watched all of the Criterion set of America Lost and Found: The BBS Story, so Easy Rider was part of it. Such a strange great piece of filmmaking. Now they’re both gone.

Don't have a lot of his movies in my collection, but I do have the double feature of Dirty Mary Crazy Larry and Race With the Devil. One or more will be watched tonight.

Re: RIP Peter Fonda 1940-2019

RIP. He died too early.

He seemed like a mellow guy and he gave the world Bridget Fonda.

He gave a great performance in Ulee's Gold.

I will have to watch Future World again sometime and it is hiding somewhere in the cabinet.

He seemed to do whatever role he wanted in the past few decades. Whether because he needed the money or just wanted to have fun, he rarely phoned it in.

The Limey is a super underrated film as well as performance from him.

It’s kind of ironic that he died on the 50th anniversary of Woodstock considering he was a face of that counter culture revolution.

Greatest speech in cinema

And yes The Limey is great.

Frankly both of Henry Fonda’s kids came off as indefensibly kooky and narcissistic.

He also died on the exact same day as Elvis Presley 42 years later, which is exactly how old Elvis was when he died, 42.

And here is a photo of Fonda wearing Elvis's famous sunglasses. The actual pair Elvis owned.

What a strange and wonderful moment it was to wear Elvis’s sunglasses. In the early sixties, I used to play touch football with Elvis and his “gang” in a little park right at the junction of Beverly Drive and Coldwater Canyon, in LA. Elvis wore a helmet and face guard. He didn’t need to (though I totally understand why he did), as there was no chance that any of us would hurt that beautiful face. We all loved El, and we sure as hell didn’t want to mess with his boys.

The park has been replaced with a children’s playground, but the memories linger on…..and always will.

Re: RIP Peter Fonda 1940-2019

A lot of Easy Rider mentions on my Facebook. I threw up a post for people to check out The Hired Hand. A film Fonda directed and starred in 2 years later with Warren Oates, Verna Bloom and photography by Vilmos Zsigmond. One of the great westerns of all time.

Re: RIP Peter Fonda 1940-2019

I saw quite a few of his films in their original release, including EASY RIDER, HIRED HAND, and FUTUREWORLD. My favorite films of his are THE WILD ANGELS, THE TRIP, EASY RIDER, DIRTY MARY CRAZY LARRY, RACE WITH THE DEVIL, and FUTUREWORLD. I've seen only one of his films after CANNONBALL RUN and it's 3:10 TO YUMA (2007). He was very good in that.

Interesting bit of trivia: Fonda's antagonist in DIRTY MARY CRAZY LARRY was Vic Morrow. 18 years later, Peter's daughter Bridget Fonda starred in SINGLE WHITE FEMALE (1992) and her antagonist was Vic Morrow's daughter, Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Nobody's mentioned this, unless I'm mistaken he appeared in ESCAPE FROM L.A.

Re: RIP Peter Fonda 1940-2019

Watched Easy Rider last night in his memory. That movie was such an iconic work of its time.

While a lot of people (myself included) don't care of the Nic Cage Ghost Rider movie, the whole image of Peter Fonda as pseudo-Mephisto raising a demonic bike from the earth was pretty cool on its own.

We all know “Certain Fury” was his most shining moment and simply put: the runaway classic that cemented his legacy into greatness.

Fonda's Easy Rider character was the epitome of COOL.
Who can ever forget the shock of his ending?

Re: RIP Peter Fonda 1940-2019

I just did a Peter Fonda two-fer this weekend of "Dirty Mary Crazy Larry" and "Outlaw Blues". I have to agree that "The Hired hand" is a really good one also!

This was pretty good also...

Re: RIP Peter Fonda 1940-2019

His widow is suing the hospital that treated him.

Margaret Fonda, the widow of the late Peter Fonda, is suing the Providence Saint Joseph’s Health Center in Santa Monica following her husband’s death from lung cancer in August 2019. The lawsuit, which was obtained by TMZ, sees Fonda claim the hospital did not take the proper precautions when it came to diagnosing and treating his cancer.

At the time of his death, the “Easy Rider” actor was 79. His wife notes that proper tests were not administered and it was recommended he sees other specialists. Among other things, Fonda believes the center did not also properly advise him on more frequent follow-ups. The TMZ article shared that the medical facility declined to comment on the lawsuit. When the actor passed away, his family was heartbroken at the news with his older sister, Jane Fonda, telling TMZ she was “very sad” to learn of her brother’s passing.

She referred to him as the “talker of the family” and that even in his final days, “he went out laughing.” A joint statement issued by the family called it “one of the saddest moments of our lives.”
