The reason the Internet latched on to the idea of Krasinski as Reed is because people were enamored by the idea of Emily Blunt also playing Sue - so a married couple played by a famous married couple.

Honestly, I thought the relationship with the Skrull worked the best. They both loved each other once he got over the idea she had lied to him from the beginning. No joke, that's my preferred status quo for Johnny.

It’s also the same issue with Thanos. He could have beaten the entire MCU with just the Reality stone.
Any overpowered hero/villain could win if they were willing to just…kill people.

Oh, shit, yeah. I always associate Alicia Masters with Johnny Storm because of that Skrull storyline back in the die-cut cover issue of the comic. I was never a regular FF reader, so that's stuck in my head.
But on the other hand, I could totally see Richie dating a woman like Natasha Lyonne...

The problem is that there is nothing the smartest man in the MCU can do to someone who can manipulate reality. Wanda can basically wish you away.

I wasn't a big fan of the Tom Defalco era of FF (though Paul Ryan on art was great)... boob window Sue, helmeted Thing, the family are just constantly at odds with each other, Alicia is a skrull, She-thing Ms Marvel betraying them, Franklin being a rip off Cable, etc. It was like they wanted to fit in as many 90's comics themes as they could.

Then when did you stop reading comics? This stuff has been going on forever.

I stopped reading Marvel comics around 1990, I'm kinda glad I did.

I sold off my collection a few years back and don't recall many or any priced higher than 25 cents.
They were not worth a gold mine either. Many were not in the best of shape with a few exceptions like the 121 and 122. I knew even then at a young age those meant something...

Is "I Married a Skrull!" really where people draw the line with comics? Fantastic Four was always a sci-fi family soap opera first and foremost, and someone close to the FF being revealed as a Skrull is literally the reason why you have shapeshifting characters like Skrulls. That storyline was from 1991 (so hardly modern) and there are probably 100 stories in Fantastic Four alone in the 30 years preceding it that are far more outrageous/dumber.

It first struck me some time in the early 1990s reading the X-Men comic books, and the whole saga of Scott Summers, Jean Grey, Madelyn Pryor, Rachel Summers, and Cable is basically something straight out of a daytime soap with demons, cloning, and time travel thrown into the mix.

I've long said that superhero comics are soap operas for boys.

You can find the footage out there. It looked pretty cool to me. Good to see a non-cloud Galactus.

I've heard it referred to as concept footage, probably to see if the tone works. There is also a quick clip of a scene spoofing "the Dating Game" where one of the three guys in shadow is clearly the Thing.
I'm a little iffy on what I saw. It looked to me like it was pretty arch and trying too hard. I'm also still not sold on some of the casting here and the footage did nothing to change my mind there.
The only thing that I think everyone will probably agree on is how cool it was to see the close up of Galactus peeking into the window of a high rise.

Sure enough, on Saturday night, Marvel announced that Robert Downey Jr. would be coming back to the MCU as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Of course, they left out the part about the character being first introduced in a mid/post-credits sequence at the end of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, but that’s beside the point.
