I am glad I quit reading comics before all this nonsense.

The reason the Internet latched on to the idea of Krasinski as Reed is because people were enamored by the idea of Emily Blunt also playing Sue - so a married couple played by a famous married couple.

A decent capsule summary of Johnny Storm's love life:

The Cool Kids Table: The Many Loves of The Human Torch

Honestly, I thought the relationship with the Skrull worked the best. They both loved each other once he got over the idea she had lied to him from the beginning. No joke, that's my preferred status quo for Johnny.

The problem is that there is nothing the smartest man in the MCU can do to someone who can manipulate reality. Wanda can basically wish you away.

It’s also the same issue with Thanos. He could have beaten the entire MCU with just the Reality stone.

Any overpowered hero/villain could win if they were willing to just…kill people.

Oh, shit, yeah. I always associate Alicia Masters with Johnny Storm because of that Skrull storyline back in the die-cut cover issue of the comic. I was never a regular FF reader, so that's stuck in my head.

But on the other hand, I could totally see Richie dating a woman like Natasha Lyonne...

I mean the likes of Reed Richards, Tony Stark, Hank Pym, Forge, etc. are basically deus ex machinas whenever they need to be: smart enough to build whatever technology is needed to move the plot along when it's needed, but otherwise not smart enough when they don't need to be and seemingly can't really solve certain other issues like, say, cancer or their best friend turning into a rocky monster.

I wasn't a big fan of the Tom Defalco era of FF (though Paul Ryan on art was great)... boob window Sue, helmeted Thing, the family are just constantly at odds with each other, Alicia is a skrull, She-thing Ms Marvel betraying them, Franklin being a rip off Cable, etc. It was like they wanted to fit in as many 90's comics themes as they could.

Whenever comic book fans rag on the movie versions for absurdity, I just want to say "have you read comics?"

I stopped reading Marvel comics around 1990, I'm kinda glad I did.

The late in the 70's probably. Honestly the last comics I remember buying was the Death of Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man #121–122 because it was so impactful.

I sold off my collection a few years back and don't recall many or any priced higher than 25 cents.

They were not worth a gold mine either. Many were not in the best of shape with a few exceptions like the 121 and 122. I knew even then at a young age those meant something...

Is "I Married a Skrull!" really where people draw the line with comics? Fantastic Four was always a sci-fi family soap opera first and foremost, and someone close to the FF being revealed as a Skrull is literally the reason why you have shapeshifting characters like Skrulls. That storyline was from 1991 (so hardly modern) and there are probably 100 stories in Fantastic Four alone in the 30 years preceding it that are far more outrageous/dumber.

Most of the dumb stories weren't that far impacting. This one was basically a retcon of something that had happened years and years prior (I think the marriage was actually in 1987), which included a bunch of character growth and the Thing coming to terms with it. And it coincided, like I said before, with them throwing everything at the wall to try to emulate the success of stuff like the 90's X-men. This is not a situation like Busiek suggesting that they bring Jean Grey back because he was well versed in continuity and he wanted to fix it, this was basically a ratings ploy to return things to the status quo from years and years back (Johnny is single again! Ben and Alicia are back together!), which can be compared to something like Spider-man One More Day breaking up Peter and MJ.

I've long said that superhero comics are soap operas for boys.

It first struck me some time in the early 1990s reading the X-Men comic books, and the whole saga of Scott Summers, Jean Grey, Madelyn Pryor, Rachel Summers, and Cable is basically something straight out of a daytime soap with demons, cloning, and time travel thrown into the mix.

No, wrestling is soap operas for boys/men.

Pre-production test shots for costumes/sets. At Star Wars Celebration a few years ago, we got an Ahsoka tv series trailer even though they only started shooting the week before.

You can find the footage out there. It looked pretty cool to me. Good to see a non-cloud Galactus.

That makes sense, as I'd expect they'll clean up Pascal to make his facial hair period appropriate. And I'm really liking the feel of this film.

I've heard it referred to as concept footage, probably to see if the tone works. There is also a quick clip of a scene spoofing "the Dating Game" where one of the three guys in shadow is clearly the Thing.
I'm a little iffy on what I saw. It looked to me like it was pretty arch and trying too hard. I'm also still not sold on some of the casting here and the footage did nothing to change my mind there.

The only thing that I think everyone will probably agree on is how cool it was to see the close up of Galactus peeking into the window of a high rise.

Re: The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025, D: Shakman) S: Pascal, Kirby, Moss-Bachrach, Quinn

Sure enough, on Saturday night, Marvel announced that Robert Downey Jr. would be coming back to the MCU as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Of course, they left out the part about the character being first introduced in a mid/post-credits sequence at the end of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, but that’s beside the point.
