No surprise this is likely cancelled. Part of me thinks Disney doesn’t want another R rated MCU film and that Deadpool is the exception not a new rule and that’s why this being delayed over and over. Otherwise a Blade movie in theory shouldn’t be that complicated.

It's crazy to think about all the characters that were technically a part of the Marvel Universe back in the 70s-80s that could never be in the MCU due to convoluted rights reasons: the Micronauts, ROM Space Knight, Godzilla, Shogun Warriors, KISS, but what if they could? The mind boggles!

Plus fucking Count Dracula himself! I'd love to see Drac in the MCU.

Maybe but you’d think Marvel would know its audience. All the kids who grew up with the MCU are all adults now. If you were 1 year old when Iron Man was released, you’re 18 now.

When they continued the series with #5, I think they dropped all of the Marvel stuff.
I don't think G. I. Joe ever had any links to the Marvel Universe, except through the Transformers when they did a four-issue crossover series.

The titles under the "Midnight Sons" umbrella were Ghost Rider, Ghost Rider/Blaze: Spirits of Vengeance, Morbius: The Living Vampire, Darkhold: Pages from the Book of Sin, and Nightstalkers (which featured Blade as a main character). A year or two later, they started folding other characters and titles under the imprint like Dr. Strange and Werewolf by Night.

Part of IDW's run of Transformer featured an Avengers crossover with Doctor Doom as the villain. And it was canon to that particular TF run.

Canceling the popular Blade brand to use Blade in the unknown Midnight Sons doesn't really make sense. Wouldn't it make more sense if other Midnight Sons characters would be introduced in a Blade movie? I think a Blade movie shouldn't be so complicated, but that's what I thought about a new The Crow or Hellboy movie.

For whatever reason, they haven't been able to get Blade off of the ground. Maybe they're canceling it and starting over from scratch?

Yeah, ideally they could use Blade as an introductory point to the supernatural corner of the MCU. It seems like a no-brainer, where they could make a Blade movie and use that to introduce more supernatural elements into the MCU like the Darkhold, Hannibal King, Dracula, Ghost Rider, et al. They already introduced Werewolf by Night and Man-Thing in that Halloween special a few years back. Throw in a guest appearance with Doctor Strange.
For whatever reason, they haven't been able to get Blade off of the ground. Maybe they're canceling it and starting over from scratch?

I expect the Blade release date announcement the same day that Tool is announced to be doing the soundtrack.

I guess it's in its own universe in the multiverse now.

Yeah, both Ghost Rider and Darkhold were featured in Agents of SHIELD, but that series was quietly decanonized around Phase III. It was canon as of Captain America: Winter Soldier, where the movie and the series tied in closely, but by the time Avengers: Infinity War came out, the blip wasn't shown or referenced at all.
I guess it's in its own universe in the multiverse now.

Re: Marvel's Blade (?, D: ?) - S: Mahershala Ali
Was Agents of SHIELD ever "canon"? The show referenced the movies, but the movies never referenced the show. At that point Kevin Feige wasn't even an active part of the TV divison and in open dispute with Jeph Loeb. I'd say the early seasons of SHIELD were compatible, but never canon.
But, aside from that, I think that the connection between Aos and the MCU films has always been a one-way street where AoS picked up stuff from the movies, but the movies didn't directly acknowledge the series.
But since there's a multiverse now, all of the stuff from AoS can now just be written off as a separate universe that closely mirrors the MCU (maybe Coulson's resurrection was the diverging point), so the Kree and Jarvis that debuted there are the AosU counterparts from the MCU. Far as we know, the MCU Coulson is still dead.
