So sad that he's gone. Loved him in Men in Black and Defending Your Life.

Re: RIP Rip Torn (1931-2019)

Seemed to have been known for comical parts in his later years, but he was the go-to Guy when adult art films were in their infancy. i,e Coming Apart,&Tropic Of Cancer.

For me, the overlooked Payday (1973) is his shining moment. Southern-fried 70’s nihilism at it’s finest!

Re: RIP Rip Torn (1931-2019)

When Larry Sanders was in the air, whoever wrote the TV Guide synopsis of one episode had a bit of a laugh, I don't remember the exact wording, but it was basically, "Artie gets ripped after he's all torn up about Larry ignoring him."

That's too bad. Loved him as Artie, and just watched him in Summer Rental a couple of nights ago.

May he RIP.

God, he was awful in Men Black 2, with that stupid jump kick, but he was a booze hound like no other. He got so wasted once that he broke into a bank and passed out in it.

Whenever I think of Rip Torn I think of Defending Your Life. He's a big part of why I love that movie.

And, let's face it, no actor ever had a better name than Rip Torn.

He was So amazing in Larry Sanders. So many 21st century TV comedy performances owe a debt to his deadpan work on that show. Half the cast of Veep is channeling him.

I didn't realize that he was still alive. I didn't really follow his work that closely and I think I just assumed he was dead because they killed him offscreen in MIB3, lol.

I always get him confused with Rip Taylor who played the geenie on Sigmung the Sea Monster.

I was just watching MiB2 yesterday. He had great comedic chops, especially in The Larry Sanders Show.

Same here. He owned that role and the movie was a childhood favorite of mine.

I'll have to check out Payday from 1973 mentioned earlier in the thread. Never heard of it but sounds right up my alley.
