First look... https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood...uel-first-look

Our first official look at Tom Blyth and Rachel Zegler as Coriolanus Snow and Lucy Gray Baird in the Hunger Games prequel

I read the book as soon as it was released and really enjoyed it. But I don't understand how they'll take the three sections of the book and make it into one movie. I can see where they could split it in two, but we'll see what they do - there is quite a bit of fluff they could cut out (but maybe they'll use a montage).

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes – In Theaters November 17, 2023. Starring Tom Blyth, Rachel Zegler, Peter Dinklage, Hunter Schafer, Josh Andrés Rivera, Jason Schwartzman, and Viola Davis.

Experience the story of THE HUNGER GAMES — 64 years before Katniss Everdeen volunteered as tribute, and decades before Coriolanus Snow became the tyrannical President of Panem.

THE HUNGER GAMES: THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS & SNAKES follows a young Coriolanus (Tom Blyth) who is the last hope for his failing lineage, the once-proud Snow family that has fallen from grace in a post-war Capitol. With his livelihood threatened, Snow is reluctantly assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler), a tribute from the impoverished District 12. But after Lucy Gray’s charm captivates the audience of Panem, Snow sees an opportunity to shift their fates. With everything he has worked for hanging in the balance, Snow unites with Lucy Gray to turn the odds in their favor. Battling his instincts for both good and evil, Snow sets out on a race against time to survive and reveal if he will ultimately become a songbird or a snake.

Holy shit does Jason Schwartzman have a perfect Stanley Tucci impersonation going on there.
It's weird seeing Peter Dinklage in that sort of a role without an English accent.

Sure I'll watch. Looks fun enough.

Am I supposed to know who Tom Blyth is? I've never heard of him or almost anything he's ever been in.

I need to read the book before I watch this. I've got six months. I've owned it since it first came out, but never got around to reading it. I own all four Hunger Games movies and I've only seen the first movie. I have read all those books though. I need to get caught up.

He was in one episode of The Gilded Age, but that's all I've seen him in. He looks completely different with the blonde hair.

I’ve put it back in my stack and will reread it before the movie comes out. It is my favorite of the four books.

Oh wow! That's high praise. I'll have to start it soon.

What I like about it is that’s really three smaller books in one volume and reads easier that way. They could have easily made it three films but I’m curious to see how they abridge it. It actually made my empathetic to Snow’s upbringing.

Re: The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023, D: Lawrence) -- prequel

I just finished my second reading the book and I am stoked for this film. I really hope they do it justice.

If they treat the three acts as the three sections from the book, I’ll be happy.

im not quite sure how they’ll abridge certain parts (the zoo of the academy) but I hope they leave the games intact as it’s written.

I guess we’ll see what happens in a month.

Lionsgate made a deal with SAG-AFTRA, so the stars of this movie are allowed to promote it. Lionsgate is a non-AMPTP studio.

Zegler has already started promoting it on social media.

This is 2 hours and 45 minutes. With trailers, it's over 3 hours. Tickets went on sale yesterday

Another really long movie that DVD Talk will probably complain about .

I am stoked to see this... and if done right, I will see it several times in the theater.

Is it R-rated?

To be fair, you're the one who always brings it up first.

Because the much higher-profile films with Jennifer Lawrence, Julianne Moore and Phillip Seymour Hoffman weren't.

News to me. All except one wasn't too good and that's because the studio felt the need to split the final book.

And they are all currently rated higher than this one.

Yeah, I remember the first couple being pretty solid. The last two I liked less, but in no way were they a disaster or anything.

But I haven't seen any of them since the theater and couldn't even begin to tell you what happens in any of them, so take that for what it's worth.

I'm with you there. I planned to try and rewatch them before next weekend though.

I really liked the book. It’s my favorite of the four. I’m cautiously optimistic that this movie will do the book justice.

I will see it Friday morning, first thing.

Snow falls on top.

I read the original trilogy before the first movie came out. I'll probably try to read this book before I catch the movie when it hits video later.

I think the two movies based on the third book were not very good because the third book itself was not that great.

Re: The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023, D: Lawrence) -- prequel

According to the link I followed from the RT link above, professional critics now have the score at 59% while the everyday people who watched this movie have given it a 91% approval rating. So, the critics didn't particularly care for it but everybody else apparently loved it. I'm sure that's not the first time ratings were so far apart for a movie and probably won't be the last, but it always amuses me to see how critics can dislike something so vehemently but everybody else loves it. Makes me want to go with the audience's reaction as a meter for whether or not I want to see it.

As far as the original movies go, I read the books and saw the movies and I enjoyed them both, so I know I'll eventually see this one.
