Disney buys Vivid Entertainent
From the press release:
In a surprising move from the Walt Disney Company, fresh off its acquisition of 20th Century Fox, has now purchased the adult video company Vivid Entertainment which will be formalized on Monday morning. CEO Robert Iger said "The addition of Vivid to the Disney family of companies will allow us access to the adult entertainment market, which up until now we have been missing out on income from. This will also allow us to reach even broader audiences than we do currently, which is always a good thing."
Those close to the deal have assured us that despite Disney's family-friendly image, they won't be imposing any content restrictions on Vivid's future output. On the contrary, some executives are hoping to re-launch adult movies as big theatrical features, something which died out in the 1980s when the audience for such content migrated to home video. An unnamed A-list director is being sought to direct a big-budget explicit feature which will have a wide theatrical release, just as Disney's other films do, before heading to home viewing later. If it's successful, such films could be released on a regular basis.
Vivid's current production team will remain on board, although as with Fox the smaller positions will inevitably be eliminated as operations are further consolidated. The move should allow for far wider distribution for Vivid's product than there has been ever since its beginnings in 1984. Only time will tell how this will impact Disney's theme parks.

I seem to remember that last year some major companies got in on the April Fool’s game and this story would seem to indicate they are once again trying to participate in the fun.
