Saw this today off of HBO, and thought it was really good. I liked how it was from the conman's perspective (Col Tom Parker) and how he used and manipulated Elvis for his own financial gain and pretty much was the one who probably got him to be super paranoid about everything. So much in fact, he was able to keep Elvis from doing International tours.

This movie is fucking terrible. I had to turn it off. For anyone who loves music or is a musician this movie isn’t for you, this movie is a sensationalistic pos.

Baz Luhrmann: I’m Too ‘Tired’ to Release the Four-Hour ‘Elvis’ Cut on HBO Max

Luhrmann clarified that he has approximately four to six months more work to do before an extended cut could be released on streaming platform HBO Max.

“It isn’t just like I’ve got it, and you just put it out there,” Luhrmann said. “Every minute in post-production, you have to do visual effects, grading, cutting, refining, and ADR sound. It’s not like it’s just sitting there finished, and I can just push a button and it comes out. You’d have to get back in and work on it.”

He summed up, “I’m not closed to it, but not now. I’m a little bit on the tired side.

It felt like a lot was left out of it- a few eras were just skipped over. I’d watch a longer version. Agreed that Tom Hanks was just annoying. This movie makes me wish they’d make a VR experience that puts you in Las Vegas in the early 70s!

It wasn't designed as a biopic.

Yes, it seems designed to be a bit like an opera. All the clown imagery, Tom Hanks being like a Méphistophélès figure.

He kinda reminded me of the Zidler character in Moulin Rouge.

It reminded me a lot of Crossroads in some ways- I love the blues, I thought Crossroads did it a lot better.

Sat down to watch this expecting to have a laugh at it being bad. Was pleasantly surprised. Butler is absolutely amazing and Oscar worrthy. Hanks’ is like a bad Bond villain. Col. Parker sounded nothing like that in real life. The movie should have ended at the fade-out on the Unchained Melody performance. The sequence that followed was like the rat in The Departed. Zero interest in a rewatch; was thoroughly entertained once though.

I liked all of it. Including Tom Hanks' portrayal.

I never listened to Elvis. I know who he is and know his songs. His lyrics are stronger than I ever gave him credit for. I've read how he never wrote a song. But I can get past that.

Re: Elvis (2022, D: Baz Luhrmann) S: Austin Butler, Tom Hanks

Has some very exciting bits but mostly boring. I've seen most of these events in real life or video so a recreation falls flat. Great performance by Austin Butler but Tom Hanks is distracting in every scene he is in. Is at least an hour too long.

I've never been a fan of Elvis (a little too young, I remember his Nixon phase) but I wonder what it was like for him to be the first giant star of the TV era. The Beatles had each other but he was swinging in the breeze. No wonder he cracked.
