Looks okay enough, though.
To me, this is Stranger things in the Ghostbusters universe. At any rate, this looks intriguing. So I guess the Midwest is in, NYC is out.

I guess I saw that but wasn’t for sure it was Slimer.

Yeah, this is what I was thinking too. Actually, hell, they could have just added "new neighbors" to the next season of Stranger Things who just so happen to be related to the OG Ghostbusters, and it would have been about the same vibe.

So I guess the Midwest is in, NYC is out.
I recall people were kind of upset about how GB2016 was filmed in some random city while it was meant to be NYC.

Wait 'til those folks find out GB202 was filmed in Canada, not the Midwest!

So Egon already had a kid at the time of the original Ghostbusters?

Rudd gives this film some credibility; otherwise it looks like a kid movie ala Goosebumps, IMO.

Sure, even if he had his daughter in 1989 after GB 2, she would be 30 now. Totally feasible for her to be a single mother of a teen.

Isn't Carrie Coon playing Egon's daughter? She was born in 1981. She could be playing a little younger though.

I'm impressed they could get Slimer to return.

She definitely doesn't look 30... even when she was closer to 30.

Remember the teaser trailer that just showed the ECTO-1 in a barn? Looks like it was a hint.

Wait, are we sure Carrie Coon is playing Egon's daughter? She's the mom, but maybe Egon's her father-in-law? That could explain why Paul Rudd asks "didn't your dad tell you about any of this?" in the trailer, because the kids' dad is the son of Egon. They don't know much about Egon or the Ghostbusters, because that was from their dad's side of the family, and he wasn't around to tell them.

If this is a huge hit, what are the odds there will one day be a movie where a bunch of kids playing on their grandfather's farm find an old DeLorean covered up in a barn?

If Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale are to be believed, the odd are zero as long as they are alive.

Zero as long as Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale still have a say. They’ve said as long as they’re around there won’t be a reboot or sequel. I tend to believe them because if they or Universal wanted it to happen I’m sure it would have happened by now.

Plus even if it happened the DeLorean was destroyed so there isn’t exactly an easy way to explain it being found.

I posted this nearly exactly at the BR.com forum (not saying you stole it, just find it interesting that someone else had the exact same thought).

The very first thing that crossed my mind in the first few seconds of that trailer was Stranger Things, mainly because I think the whole Stranger Things and/or 80's trend (AHS, Wonder Woman 2, Summer of '84, Scary Stories, Super Dark Times, Final Girls, others I'm forgetting) is wearing thin. "Look, kids having paranormal adventures! A mall! Vintage soundtracks!). I do hope, though, that they DON'T race back to the big city in this. Maybe take some time to get there after a couple of movies set elsewhere but related to that "crossrip" thing. BTW, was it called that in the the original films or is that some new term coined so they can potentially make as many movies as they want now, all tied back to that event?

This has the hint of something more ominous than anything from the Ghostbusters reboot, and makes it feel like a better continuation of the series. I also get a Jr Ghostbusters cartoon-vibe from it. J. Michael Straczynski must be rolling in his grave.

But as a Ghostbusters fan I'm not interested.

I like the idea of paranormal activity in the big city because "old haunted houses" are expected to be haunted. You don't expect your modern-looking, expensive high rise New York apartment to be haunted, let alone having the fridge in it be a portal to another dimension. Or maybe that IS expected now since films like Ju-On? And now we're back to literal old haunted houses?

I wonder if that was a Terror Dog?

I’m looking forward to this cause it looks fun but my biggest hesitation about another “Ghostbusters” movie is that the original cast was what made that movie the classic it was. To be honest, the story, atmosphere, and world they created really weren’t that spectacular. It was the great cast of characters and how the actors turned average lines of dialogue into classic lines that made it a great film.

This new film seems to have most of the “Ghostbusters” elements but it’s missing the actors* who took it from mediocre to classic.

*I’m not counting the cameos.

I think it was. Or at least something very similar since it wouldn’t be the same exact statues.

Momentary sidetrack: Yeah, absolutely no way to explain that in a series about time travel.

I agree about the cast being the lynchpin of GB’s success but I think the atmosphere played a big part as well. As someone else here said, the city itself is a character. When I was a kid I wanted to live in the firehouse. Even the animated series played up the New Yawk feeling.

I’m sure someone could figure out a way to bring it back, but I’m not exactly sure what a good explanation would be that would make sense.

Getting more sidetracked about the possibility of another in tact DeLorean. One thing I always wondered is wouldn’t have there technically been two time machines in Back to the Future Part III? The one Marty and 1955 Doc recover from the mine and Marty travels back to 1885 in, and the one that initially sent 1985 Doc to 1885 in the first place?
