Lawnmower Man to Lawnmower Man 2: Beyond Cyberspace

Jeff Fahey is replaced with Matt Frewer?! Come on.

I saw THE EXORCIST twice in theaters back in 1974, but not since and have no interest. I've seen EXORCIST II quite a few times since 1977. I know I'm in a tiny minority on this, but I loved EXORCIST II in a theater in 1977 and most recently when I re-watched it on VHS a few years ago.

I wrote a letter defending the movie and Variety published it the week after it opened.

Would love to read that letter if you have a link to it. I saw "Exorcist II" in the theater too when I was around 13 years old and liked it at the time. Because I loved "The Exorcist" so much. Liked so many others, it scared the hell out of me. My friend's mom took me and my friend to see it (with my parent's permission of course). But when I saw "II" again years later, I really hated it. I've seen it a few times since over the years and haven't changed my mind. But I do know many people like you who loved it. Great soundtrack though, really effective!

MIB2 is the only movie I've ever considered walking out on in the theater. I didn't, but I really HATE that movie.

I didn't hate it as much you, but thought it stunk. Curious what you think about "III"?

If we're doing straight to TV, how about The Last Days of Patton?

George C. Scott phones it in while wearing the most obvious appliances ever attached to his neck.

Maybe not the worst, but certainly the worst ever to carry over an Oscar nominated performance to the sequel, Elizabeth : The Golden Age was a total disaster and shockingly disappointing -- considering it was a true sequel that brought back both the star, costar, writer and director from the fantastic, critically acclaimed, BP-nominated original.

Saying Batman Begins is better than The Dark Knight is akin to saying Star Wars 77 is better than The Empire Strikes Back. They're both great works of cinema, but let's be real here. (And for those sputtering that I'm putting The Dark Knight in the same category as TESB, I'll save you a reply and say: I am.)

It’s not that The Dark Knight is bad I agree, and I don’t even know if it pertains to the question posed by the thread (I was just giving input on someone else’s response), but I get more enjoyment from watching Batman Begins. I will say though while I don’t mind the sequels we got part of me wishes we’d have gotten some things different. To me the sequels feel less comic book and more like crime dramas with comic book characters. I still like the trilogy as a whole quite a bit though.

For everything wrong with "Blues Brothers 2000" (and there's a ton of stuff), it does have one redeeming quality: the music in it is great. Honestly, I'd like a cut of the movie that leaves out everything except the musical numbers.

It's still overall an unworthy sequel to the original which is a great comedy with great music, but the sequel's music does give it some watchability.

Fucking horrible movie.

Yes there is a ton of DTV sit but this was a big budget follow-up to a box office smash.

All this. For a movie based on speed and time, they make a sequel with a slow elephant. It's good to see the characters again but damn, that was the best they could come up with?

A sequel should have been the clam chowder run.

And then to take it a step further, smokey 2 to 3 is just as bad.

I liked the 3rd one, but only because I didn't have much invested in it (I saw it on cable TV, so if I hated it, no big deal. Turn the channel.)

And it had time travel, which is my favorite plot device.

I agree 100% on this. The music in the sequel was great.

I was working in theaters when BB2000 came out ... it was a treat to hear the music in DTS every day! If only the movie had been any good. To this day I still have never watched it all the way through.

I only recently managed to watch BB2000.

Much to my surprise, I didn’t hate it, but it was generally mediocre and unnecessary.

Lots I agree with here, but the first I thought of when I saw the thread title was going from Mortal Kombat to Mortal Kombat Annihilation. In this case, we had a first film that was so surprisingly good (or at least much better than it deserved to be) that when the sequel came along, Hopes were dashed right back down to reality. It wasn't just a mediocre video game movie, it's a truly bad, bad movie that mocks what came before it.

It's the first DVD that I ever sold out of my collection. Every once in a while I wish I hadn't so I can watch it again to confirm my suspicions but I have better things to do with my life.

Re: worst degradation in quality from original to sequel

Since it’s supposed to be the second part of a trilogy I’m saying it and don’t care if I catch flack. The Last Jedi. Seriously, piss on the entire last film and the legacy of established characters in the Star Wars universe because the director wanted to put his personal stamp on the franchise. Fuck that movie and Rian Johnson.

This 1st movie was a great 80's ensemble action movie. Plus it was Chuck, Lee Marvin and Steve James fighting terrorists.

2nd movie had some moments, but it was very inferior. The supporting cast sucked in Delta Force 2.

I think you have to discount, low budget STV, in name only sequels (e.g. none of the original stars are in the sequel)

There are tons of them

in terms of genuine sequels, i would have to say

Breakin to Breakin 2 Electric Boogalooo
