This actually seems like it’s going to enhance Deadpool 2 to me and may be a more enjoyable film. I’m curious how different the actual movie is minus the wrap around aspects with Deadpool and Fred Savage.

Re: Once Upon a Deadpool (Deadpool 2 -- new PG-13 cut)
Reynolds has this drily ironic fourth-wall business down pat, and Savage makes for an entertaining foil. If “Deadpool 2” gave Reynolds the excuse to look at the camera and say “Lazy writing” in regards to certain labored plot points, “Once Upon a Deadpool” lets Savage speak for the audience when mentioning, for example, that the film’s female lead Vanessa (Morena Baccarin) has been fridged, or that the backstory for time-traveling assassin Cable (Josh Brolin) is much more interesting in the comics. All told, these charming sketches take up no more than about 20 minutes of screen time, and beyond that, you’re just watching “Deadpool 2” again, albeit with some of the violence trimmed, some of the coarse language covered up, and a brand-new, digitally-inserted tribute to the recently departed Stan Lee. |

Yeah, but can I take my 7-year-old to see it. That's what I need to know, thewrap.com.

Re: Once Upon a Deadpool (Deadpool 2 -- new PG-13 cut)
Just got out of a showing ...
I suppose you could, but I don’t know that I would. They removed ALL the blood splatters, a notable amount of the violence (not as much as I expected), the f-bombs (but left quite a bit of NSFW:
There are a few redubbed lines either for cursing or to clean up a joke. They added back in some of the deleted scenes and used alternate takes in other places. All in all, it was enjoyable enough that I suppose it’s worth a matinee or an A-List (or other movie club) showing. I don’t think there is enough changed that I wouldn’t recommend a full price showing or making a date out of it. If they release it on video I won’t be double dipping. Stay ALL the way to the end — there is Spoiler:

Atom Tickets is running a promo for this movie. 50% off if you use GIFTY50 at checkout. New customers only. I've never used them, don't know about surcharges.

Re: Once Upon a Deadpool (Deadpool 2 -- new PG-13 cut)
Anything in this that wouldn’t appropriate for an 8 y/o that’s seen all the Star Wars movies and handled Infinity War just fine?
|
Re: Once Upon a Deadpool (Deadpool 2 -- new PG-13 cut)
Yes, there still is plenty of objectionable material. The adult jokes may be over his head, but they left quite a bit of language still intact.
Why the hell are people wanting to take small children to this?! It is PG-13, not G. |
Re: Once Upon a Deadpool (Deadpool 2 -- new PG-13 cut)
My kid is a superfan of Star Wars and superhero stuff, most of which is PG-13. He’s obviously never seen the first Deadpool, but I was just curious if it was sanitized enough to be safe for him. I guess we’ll just stick to seeing Spiderverse instead.

Re: Once Upon a Deadpool (Deadpool 2 -- new PG-13 cut)
I think this would have been better and funnier if they had put some more work into it and sanitized it more as part of the joke. Instead ...
https://media1.tenor.com/images/8566...temid=11030401 It definitely is not the same PG-13 level as Star Wars or other superhero films. Imagine the bare minimal cuts needed to get down to a PG-13. As I said above, still plenty of rather vulgar language was left intact. Those other films aren’t cutting backwards to get there. |
Re: Once Upon a Deadpool (Deadpool 2 -- new PG-13 cut)
So the impression I am getting is to stay away if you have seen the original version. Is that what most of you feel who have seen this new version?
I was assuming they actually added new scenes and stuff and not just the Fred Savage gimmick. |

Ok, thanks for the info. I’ll avoid this and take him to Spiderman instead.

Re: Once Upon a Deadpool (Deadpool 2 -- new PG-13 cut)
I was going to go to this but apparently my local theater only had it for like a night or two as it was there on Wednesday (didn’t check Thursday) and was gone last night and isn’t showing any more that I’m seeing.

Maybe I’m just disappointed they didn’t nueter DP2 enough to make it a family film. That was the joke but they failed to execute it. They put some effort into it; for example, the bag of cocaine in Blind Al’s apartment had the label changed to “Booger Sugar” but then they just got lazy in large chunks and left in d*cks, sh*ts, and other jokes that could have been changed to make it funnier and possibly accessible to families. |
Re: Once Upon a Deadpool (Deadpool 2 -- new PG-13 cut)
I mean realistically the Deadpool films aren’t superhero films for kids no matter how you cut them, and people expecting this film to be family friendly are fooling themselves. Just because it’s got the Marvel brand doesn’t equate it to family friendly. It’s no different than the Netflix shows like Daredevil or The Punisher. End of the day it’s still an R rated film that’s cut for content somewhat to make it passable as PG-13.

Once Upon a Deadpool is being released on Blu-ray and digital on January 15. Fox is also donating $1 from each sale or rental to Fudge Cancer through the end of January.
https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=24412 Not only does Once Upon a Deadpool help you deliver on that pesky New Year's Resolution to spend more time with your family, you can also feel all warm and fuzzy about the fact that Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will be donating $1 from every Blu-ray Purchase or Digital Buy or Rent from January 1 to January 28, 2019 to Fudge Cancer (US only. Minimum donation of $100,000). |
Re: Once Upon a Deadpool (Deadpool 2 -- new PG-13 cut)
I went to the theater ... no way I'll be buying this on BR. So much potential to be a meta-joke ... squandered.
