Between Two Ferns: The Movie (2019, D: Aukerman) S: Zach Galifianakis-- Netflix
Online talk show Between Two Ferns With Zach Galifianakis is getting the movie treatment, courtesy of Netflix.
Production is already (and secretly) underway on a feature version of the popular and barb-filled show that hails from Funny or Die.
Scott Aukerman, who directed many of the series' segments and co-created the program, is helming the movie that once again sees Galifianakis as the inappropriate host of a low-budget talk show. Galifianakis plays a broad version of himself and has conducted often awkward and uncomfortable interviews with celebrity guests such as Justin Bieber, Jon Hamm and Brad Pitt.
The format looks to continue in some form as an all-star lineup has shot, or is slated to shoot, appearances. Peter Dinklage, David Letterman, Keanu Reeves and Galifianakis’ Hangover cohorts Ed Helms and Bradley Cooper are on the docket, according to sources.
Two Ferns appeared sporadically but consistently on Funny or Die between 2008 and 2014. It returned in 2016 with an edition that featured then presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, which was viewed more than 30 million times in 24 hours. Two Ferns returned again in 2018 with a segment guest-starring Jerry Seinfeld and Cardi B.
Galifianakis is repped by UTA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Morris Yorn.

I’m speechless.
I assume that they’re going to open it up. Like the Wayne’s World movie. I mean it’s not just going to be 2 hours of interviews right?
Then again, it worked for Borat.

I assume it'll be more The Larry Sanders show with Zach's Between Two Ferns character.

Why did the chicken strip line work.
Why did I laugh at that.
Also, sold.

I love Scott Aukerman's Comedy Bang Bang show on IFC (which is over, I believe). This makes sense and I think I'll enjoy it.

Pretty shabby. The only funny bits were the interview questions, so why bother watching this instead of the show? Hate to be so negative, but the fake-documentary premise was pointless. For every wonderful Things We Do In Shadows, there seems to be half a dozen movies like this, where you get the idea the documentary style was chosen because the filmmakers were too lazy or creatively bankrupt come up with an idea of how to make a real movie.
Something positive: I did like was their building on the motel-porn joke from Rat Race. I don't honestly don't mind seeing jokes repeated when something new is added to them.
"I'm not paying for this!"
"Yes, but, you already did."

I watched about 20 minutes last night and laughed my ass off. I suspect the actors are in on it but, man, they're so dead-panned they have me fooled and I couldn't care less. This is funny stuff.

They are in on it.
The end credits were the best part.

^^ Well kudos to Keanu Reeves when he said "I'm pretending like I'm having fun right now... do you believe me?". Such a dead-panned delivery and made me crack up.

I was under the impression that while the actors are in on it, they don’t know what questions Galifianakis is going to ask but they are playing along.
I’m not sure if they’re using that same structure of this movie though.

Is this any good? I haven't had time to watch it yet, but I laughed and laughed at that trailer - and I've never been a fan of "Two Ferns." Does the movie deliver or is all the best stuff in the trailer?

It's mostly Ferns "interviews" with the typical road trip tropes thrown in. I thought it was great, but the interviews are the best parts.

That seems the most likely, but the cut scenes at the end does make it seem like there were multiple takes of the interviews. It could be that they start out not knowing the questions, but sometimes go back and redo if Zack or the guest laugh too much.

I'm sure it depends on who it is. You weren't going to have him throwing out stuff like "What's it like to be the last black president?" without some prior knowledge to the interviewee (apparently they shot that entire one twice). But on the other hand, I'm sure a few just do it Weekend Update style, and they try to make each other laugh.

I've seen multiple interviews with Zach where he says with actors he doesn't go over anything with them about what is going to happen. They come on the show knowing what the format is and that he is going to make fun of them and make fun of celebrity interviews. He mentions one big name actor (who he wouldn't name) that wanted him to edit things out afterwards and he told them no. With the Obama one he says he submitted most of the questions to one of Obama's staff and they said they were all fine to ask.
