Has anyone else never seen Dirty Dancing?
So yeah, I've never seen Dirty Dancing, and I'm pretty sure I've only met ONE other person who has also never seen it. I'm not a fan of romantic movies at all and have no desire to watch it.
One time at high school, a girl in my class started talking about Dirty Dancing, and I'd never heard of it at the time, so I asked her, "What's it about?" She burst out laughing and said, "You're deprived!"
Surely there are other people who haven't seen it either?

I've never seen it. I did see the musical, oddly enough, so I was probably the only person in the audience for whom it was a new story.

Not I. Nor have I ever seen Titanic.

I've never seen Dirty Dancing. I only vaguely know about some running and lifting sequence because it's parodied a lot, but that's it.
I've also never sat and watched all of Titanic end to end. I've seen bits and pieces that collectively probably equate to the whole thing.

I saw parts of it on TV as a kid.
I've never seen the whole thing, and I was a little surprised when it started being referred to as this big pop-culture classic.
I have seen Footloose though.

I've never seen it. Never seen GHOST either. Never seen any Harry Potter, Twilight or Hunger Games either.
Never seen any modern animation Toy Story, Shreck, etc.
I did see Incredibles, but aside from that the most recent animated film I've seen in Jungle Book (1967) in 1967.
I have seen Heavy Metal multiple times and own it. Also saw the Fritz The Cat films and Tarzoon.

I've never seen it.
I have only seen one movie, 9-1/2 Weeks, on Wikipedia's list of 1980s romance movies. It's just not my genre.

Re: Has anyone else never seen Dirty Dancing?
I saw Dirty Dancing in the theater when it was new! I was 9 and my parents took me. I remember liking the movie. I’ve never seen it since. So I have only vague memories.
I remember reading a MAD Magazine parody of the film a while later and actually understanding the story better. Like the whole Jew=Catskills thing was over my head, but clarified by MAD.
I remember that the soundtrack was a massive hit and it pervaded the culture for several years. The soundtrack had more legs than the movie.
My memory of the film is vague, but isn’t the soundtrack really anachronistic? It’s supposed to be the 50s or 60s right? But there’s all these brand new 80s tunes. Bold move.

I saw it and except for hearing The Time of My Life a million times in the 80's I don't remember a thing.

Re: Has anyone else never seen Dirty Dancing?
I lived through the '80s--as an adult!--and I leaned mostly toward the action movies from that time (RAMBO, EXTREME PREJUDICE, COMMANDO, RED HEAT, ABOVE THE LAW, et al). So I missed a lot of films that later became pop culture touchstones, including FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH, RISKY BUSINESS, FOOTLOOSE, THE GOONIES and numerous John Hughes movies. I eventually caught up with RIDGEMONT and RISKY on cable some time in the last decade (and wondered what all the fuss was about), but no, I have never seen DIRTY DANCING.
P.S. Props to the newbie for starting off on the right foot. Welcome!

I’ve seen it and never really cared for it. I always thought it was a pretty terrible movie.
I know it became somewhat popular again 10 years or so ago when Conan O’Brien started making fun of it on his show. The “nobody puts Baby in a corner” line has garnered a cult followin thanks to Conan.
Ghost on the other hand is a goddamn classic and probably the only “chick flick” I actually love.

I’ve never sat down and watched it from start to finish, but having been married before, I have seen quite a bit of it in bits and pieces.

I get that reference.
I've only seen parts of Dirty Dancing. When I was a kid, my older sister was watching it with her friends, and would chase me out of the room whenever something "inappropriate" would come up.
I have seen Grease 2 way more times than I can count, thanks to same older sister and the fact that we had Grease/Grease 2 recorded on one tape that she'd endlessly watch.
