Worse then I thought, i figured it might hold better in the 50% range. Sony seems like they just have no idea what to do with these characters even after Marvel gifted them a proper Spider-Man.

Presumably the IMDb will now be flooded with amateur 10-star "IGNORETHECRITICSTHISMOVIEISAWESOME" diarrhea.

Both reviewers on Screen Junkies (Dan Murrell and Danielle Radford) liked it. Dan in particular I figured wouldn’t. It sounds like the film doesn’t take itself seriously and is over the top on purpose. Also from the sounds of things it’s not the traditional Eddie Brock from the comics as in he’s not the bully type (which I think is evident in the trailers). I feel like this will be a film that probably will be middle of the road and might be fine for what it is but not great.

The actual reviews sound more middle of the road than extremely positive or negative.

Lady Gaga Fans Accused of Writing Fake ‘Venom’ Reviews to Support ‘A Star Is Born’
By MARGEAUX SIPPELL
A feud is born.
On Oct. 5, two films will premiere: Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s “A Star Is Born” and Tom Hardy’s “Venom.” Despite the fact that “A Star Is Born” has already drummed up significant hype, garnering a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and awards buzz, Gaga’s fan base is apparently taking it upon themselves to make sure the movie gets as much opening day attention as “Venom.”
Once the social media embargo for “Venom” broke following the superhero movie’s red carpet premiere on Monday night, some Twitter users noticed negative reviews floating around Twitter — but it was noted that many of these critics used the same exact wording.
Okay, something is up. The negativity around the #Venom movie is looking very artificial. pic.twitter.com/f5LWF3z7Xd

One tweet that seems to be copy and pasted by several accounts reads, “i am the biggest marvel fan but I just watched #Venom and I don’t know what to say.”
When reached by BuzzFeed, one of the accounts who shared a fake negative review of “Venom” told the outlet, “It’s us Gaga fans creating fake IDs to trash the ‘Venom’ premiere. They both are getting released on the same day, so we want more audience for ‘A Star Is Born.'”

I saw #Venom last night and had to leave halfway through, my children wouldn't stop crying at how bad it was. Luckily a second pre screening of #AStarIsBorn was about to start, and now we are all crying, tears of amazement. Please pray for my eldest he is still in a coma.

While official reviews for “Venom” have not yet been released, fans who are rooting for the Sony comic-book film have taken to similar tactics to fight back on Twitter.

#Venom is the featured movie on @Fandango AND you get a free gift when you buy tickets??? Such a better deal than Lady GaGa’s #AStarIsBorn !

I wasn’t sure i’d watch #Venom on opening weekend but now i think i just might go see it twice this weekend, with a bunch of friends and family too. This is pathetic as hell.

Sooooo there are BOTS attacking the #Venom movie. LMAO
Warner Bros. and Sony, the studios behind “A Star Is Born” and “Venom,” respectively, have not yet responded to Variety‘s request for comment.
Early tracking points to “Venom” winning this box office war handily, but it might be not be as black-and-white as some fans think. “Venom” is eyeing a debut of around $65 million, while “A Star Is Born” is aiming for an opening in the mid-$20 millions — both solid premieres. However, “A Star Is Born” likely has a significantly lower production budget than a superhero tentpole like “Venom.” The two titles are also targeting drastically different audiences.

Yeah, and that’s about what I expected truthfully. I’ve sort of thought since the beginning unless it was a secret MCU tie-in film that it would probably be about average. The reviewers who have said it feels like a movie that slipped through the cracks from the early 2000s seem accurate to me from what’s on display in the trailers. I’m pretty sure I even made mention of that after one of the trailers dropped. I don’t necessarily think that’s bad as some of those older Marvel films are guilty pleasures for me, but I can see where some will be left disappointed since the bar has been raised for this type of film.

Nope.
”I don’t feel like we compromise much,” Fleischer tells Polygon during press rounds for Venom. He admits to being a bit baffled by the expectations that Venom was ever going to earn an R rating in the first place. “I’m not sure why [people thought that], other than maybe just a bloodthirst for Venom.”

Interesting call today that I got from someone wanting to talk to someone *cough*amypascal*cough* to complain about Venom. I guess they didn't like what we did with it.

Just saw it, it was stupid but fun, as I expected. More humor in it than I expected, but it was fine. My wife really enjoyed it and wants to see it again.
It does play like an early 2000 comic movie where they throw source material out the window. Almost feels like a throwback now.

I had a ton of fun with Zombieland, probably 3rd favorite, after Shaun of the Dead, then Dawn of the Dead (1978). I remembering it being pure joy 1st seeing in theaters. Think I saw in 1 other time. Some bits on tv, but I love it. It was just pure fun from opening credits on and look forward to part 2 and hope it can catch some magic. First was pretty innovative and brought a fresshness imo...

Just came back and it was a hot self-aware mess. An entertaining self-aware cheese-fest. I liked what they did with the symbiotes and how they act and communicate.
I'm glad that we'll see Kletus Kasady in the sequel and am glad they stuck with Woody Harrelson. I kept hearing that he would/would not be in the film. Looks like he did.
Stay for the 2-credit sequences but that final is just a tease of Spider-verse, which has propelled itself as one of my most anticipated films of 2018 - holy shit does it look amazing.

I thought it was funny how a lot of people talked about Life being a prequel to Venom and then the plot of this revolves around the Life Foundation.
