First horror film to start with the death of character that is never mentioned again?
Question is pretty simple...
Lots of horror movies have a cold opening where a minor character is killed. Scream is a prime example... But as I recall, they talk about that character's death later. I'm trying to think of examples where the character is never mentioned or seen (dead) again... But specifically... What was the FIRST horror flick to utilize this type of thing?

Can you give one example of this happening?
James Bond movies have a lot of cold opens where he kills someone who is never mentioned again (Goldfinger, For Your Eyes Only).

Prophecy(1979) starts out with some hikers or climbers killed by unseen monster. Nobody even knows it happened.

I thought of Renfield in any number of Dracula films. He is murdered early on, but typically mentioned later. So I don’t think it qualifies.

Yeah, that’s a good one. It seems like a trope and I feel like I should have a lot of answers, but I’m still thinking.
