BlacKkKlansman...what a sublime movie. this was an entirely thorough to the period, well done, well acted, well directed, well written movie. i had chills at the end knowing this was based on a true story with some dramatic changes. everything worked so well on so many levels. Washington was so likeable and so good. i totally forget who his father was until after, but who cares, he stands on his own as a really good actor. Confident and sure of his portrayal. this was like a culmination of all Spike Lee's films and I think his finest. truly not to be missed.

Just caught up with this movie. First rate all around. You guys have already pretty much said it all. The thing I liked most was that the story took the time to have some really great character development and growth amongst and between the two cop characters.

Only problen I had was:
When the bomber woman leaves the party, Ron the black cop seems to just magically know she’s up to something and he rushes to follow her. Unless I missed something the movie gives no explanation of why he would be suspicious of her.

Oh and this losing to Green Book of all things looks bad. That movie was downright dreadful.

One other detail that bothered me was the movie party. Back in 1972 or 1979 or today I don’t think racists would boisterously and enthusiastically watch Birth of a Nation with so much enthusiasm.

If so, I completely missed that aspect
I thought that scene was strangely put together as well. I wasn't quite sure which care blew up, and who got killed until I went back and rewatched the events leading up to it.

I'm assuming that was intentional on Lee's part, to put the viewer in the same state of shock and confusion as the characters, but it would have thrown me off if I was sitting in a theater without a rewind button.

I read the book and at least according to that, they did gather and watch that film as it was very effective propaganda for them.

That’s interesting. It blows me away that ignorant people would have the patience to sit through a black and white silent film that’s about 3 hours long. But who knows what was available back then. Probably a shortened 16 or 8 mm print.

Yet we live in the Age of Dorito. We haven't really advanced that much, In fact, we've regressed over the past 3 years.

I think this is one of Spike's highlights. He deserved Best Director and Best Movie as well for this one. And I now want to see a lot more of John David Washington in movies. It's crazy how much he sounds like his Dad.
