Saw this because of Moviepass, was way better than I thought it should be. Tennant plays a good bad guy.

My son and I are going to see this tonight. I'm trying to make catching at least one movie theatrically a weekly thing for us, and this looks like it could be a good one.

I saw a matinee today and it's good mainly because of David Tennant. Really creepy villain.

There's no gore, no grotesque torture porn. It's mainly a cat and mouse thriller between Tennant and the protagonist (Robert Sheehan). It had some by the numbers predictable thriller elements, but overall it was an entertaining 105 minutes.

I'd give this a B mainly because of the creepy vibe and Tennant.

Why wouldn't he be? Leverage was a great series. And Geostorm was the bomb, yo!

Dean Devlin was the EP and showrunner for The Librarians on TNT, which lasted 4 seasons.

He's doing well. Plus, he has a new science fiction series airing on The CW this summer.

My son thought it was just okay, but I really enjoyed this one. They did a nice job building the tension up as the movie rolls along. Tennant and Robert Sheehan were both really good. Glad I caught this one before it is out of theaters.

I know he’s been into TV, but movies like Geostorm (the bomb yo!), we’re forgettable. Then again looking at his filmography, he hasn’t directed much. And it shows. I tried to watch Leverage, but it didn’t grab me any.

I thought this was just awful. The script and the acting were abysmal. I don't know how this managed to get a theatrical release. 2.5/5

I'm also shocked this didn't go STV.

I felt the set-up and first 30 minutes were effective and got me engaged in the story. Tennant was appropriately sinister early on and Sheehan made for a sympathetic protagonist. Everything after that, from the "naughty" photo being sent to everybody, to the beatings and murders, was relentlessly predictable and not very believable. The FBI angle was totally unnecessary except to provide boring exposition about the bad guy's background (fave line: "Instead of taming horses, he's taming humans.")

As a cat-and-mouse thriller between a less than straight arrow protagonist and an intelligent but psychotic nemesis, this one ranks far, far below stuff like The Silent Partner and even Bad Influence.

The last 15 minutes were unintentional comedy gold, though
Spoiler:
Tennant shoots the lady captive and she falls into the grave. He barely checks on her, and instead of firing a couple more bullets into her body to insure that she's dead, he walks away to taunt the kid.

The lady isn't dead, though (of course). She wakes up and decides to climb out of the grave even though she doesn't know if Tennant is nearby or watching. She manages to get out of the grave while Tennant is babbling on incessantly to the kid (the overly talkative villain trope).

She runs away, but then returns with a shovel and somehow sneaks up behind the gun wielding Tennant and smashes him in the head. He falls to the ground and the woman immediately turns to the kid, who has failed in his previous attempts to rescue her, and angrily berates him (another fave line: "That's how to save someone!")

Of course, Tennant quickly regains consciousness, shoots the shovel out of the kid's hands and chases after them through the forest. Despite being pursued by a gun-toting psycho, the kid stops to try and pull an axe out of a tree stump. He manages to wrench only the handle free, but it comes in handy when the killer spots the lady and decides to take his sweet time before shooting her, which allows the kid to sneak up behind Tennant and beat him into submission.

Then an army of FBI agents arrive very late on the scene after the kid and lady have already dragged Tennant all the way back to his cabin so that they could meticulously truss him up in exactly the same fashion that he did to the woman earlier in the film.

Seriously, you can't make this shit up.

I found this surprisingly good

I enjoyed it

I agree the ending was a bit all over the place, but the cat and mouse throughout the movie was cool and i think they did a good job of having a 'what would i do in that situation' feel
