A Quiet Place Part II: Die Quieter (2021, D: Krasinski) - S: Blunt
APRIL 25, 2018 4:51pm PT by Pamela McClintock, Mia Galuppo
'A Quiet Place' Sequel Moving Ahead at Paramount
Studio chief Jim Gianopulos announced the news at CinemaCon.
Paramount is moving ahead with a sequel to A Quiet Place, the hit horror film that has earned more than $213 million at the worldwide box office, including $134.8 million in North America.
Studio chairman-CEO Jim Gianopulos announced the news at CinemaCon on Wednesday afternoon as the studio presented its slate of films to theater owners gathered in Las Vegas for their annual convention.
A Quiet Place was a much-needed success for the studio, which has endured a tough run at the box office for more than a year. It is the first film that went into production after Gianopulos — who formerly ran Fox — arrived at Paramount.
John Krasinki directed the high-concept thriller from a script by Bryan Woods and Scott Beck, who have said when asked about a sequel that they have plenty of material left over.
"If you told me five years ago that an almost silent film starring the very funny guy Jim from The Office would have been a hit at Paramount, I would have said, 'Well, I should go work at Paramount,' " Gianopulos told the crowd.
In addition to directing, Krasinski stars in the film opposite Emily Blunt, his real-life wife. They play the married parents of two small children who must remain absolutely silent if they are to avoid being attacked by creatures attracted by noise.
A Quiet Place cost $17 million to produce, meaning it will be hugely profitable. The film has defied expectations its box-office performance, even overtaking the big-budget Dwayne Johnson pic Rampage last weekend to come in No. 1 in its third weekend (it opened at No. 1, while coming in No. 2 behind Rampage in its second outing).
No release date has been set for the sequel.

They really need to introduce a purpose of the hunters and a greater threat to what is left of humanity and earth itself.

was he near a dumpster when attacked? I really can't see them bringing him back realistically. If there had been an instant diversion or the kids rammed the thing with the truck maybe but as it was laid out I cant see bringing him back outside of flashback scenes.
I wonder what kind of world building they might do with the next film....

It was a joke ...
I'm calling the poster now: A 2uiet Place (because a cursive Q looks like the number 2)
The world building is where I am a bit cynical ... they really could go anywhere, which is good! A prequel, sequel, parallel story ... I just can't see a sequel having the same suspense/horror genre though. Just because of my cynicism about Hollywood, I suspect it will be more of an action film (prequel).

I like the idea of a prequel which shows more of how they got to that point. It would allow them more time to suss out a feel good follow up part 3.
My only question is how did the aliens not run into someone playing Justin Bieber in a car or something causing the aliens to commit ritualistic suicide?

That gag has already been used to great effect in Tim Burton's Mars Attacks! film when the aliens encounter loud music that causes their heads to explode.

Caught this last night and really enjoyed it... it's definitely the kind of movie that doesn't need sequel or prequel.

You know, the first was standalone, original, fantastic. Made for no money and made over $332 million WW. Krasinsky should keep this story to himself, not sell it out, not make another with or without him. Will never recapture the magic of first. Leave this be as the great cinematic achievement it was. Peele ain’t making another Get Out. This is the movie, the story, period.

Sources says John Krasinski is back to direct Quiet Place 2. He was already on board to write the sequel, and he posted on Instagram today an indication of his return. Production we hear begins in July on the Brad Fuller and Andrew Form produced film . Krasinski also called out the sequel’s release date: May 15, 2020.
We also hear that Emily Blunt’s deal for the sequel is closed as well. She recently won a Screen Actors Guild best supporting actress award for her turn in the film.
The $17M production made its world premiere at SXSW a year ago, where promptly sent electricity into the audience. The pic was expected to open around $30M, and over-performed its domestic tracking with a $50.2M opening, and final stateside of $188M, $340M WW. With Paramount struggling before Jim Gianopulos’ arrival to the studio, A Quiet Place came as a wonderful renaissance for them. Gianopulos announced the sequel to the alien thriller last spring at CinemaCon.
The dazzle of A Quiet Place: It was largely a near dialogue-less screenplay where sound was motivating fear factor. The movie is nominated this Sunday at the Oscars for Ethan Van der Ryn and Erik Aadahl’s sound editing work.
The original feature left off with Emily Blunt’s protagonist, Evelyn Abbott, rifle-in-hand, ready to take down the aliens swarming her farm where her kids and her had cloistered.
Following the success of A Quiet Place, producers Fuller and Form launched a new production label at Paramount, Fully Formed, Entertainment. Deadline exclusively reported the news back in October.

^ BTW : I usually don't get too hung up when people slot into Supporting Actor awards for performances that could be considered co-leads, but how on earth could Emily Blunt be considered a Supporting Performer? How was she considered anything other than the lead of that movie? Were they just counting lines of dialogue?

I hated the first, and I hate sequels as a general rule, so this is a major skip for me.

I didn't think the 1st movie needed a sequel.
Seems like a money grab for Mr. K and Emily.
Considering they have a growing family, I guess what the hell...
