The humor*... The style (very Scott Pilgrim meets Michel Gondry at times)... the soundtrack... Stanfield, Thompson, and Hammer were all great... some of the smaller roles maybe not so much. The
The "White" voices... All of it.
It might end up a bomb at the box office... But I think it's destined to be a classic.
*I genuinely laughed at a ton of the jokes and sight gags in it, where most of my audience was pretty silent, for shame.
Edit: maybe less Scott Pilgrim and more Brazil? Maybe....

This is a must see for me this weekend. I love film and tv that play with surreal elements.

Ah, that makes sense.
So I take it you did not enjoy the film? You haven't said anything other than you liked the music

The credit for the Claymation movie was Michael Condry or something but I’m guessing the Gondry actually directed it.
I really liked the first 2 acts but that third act. Just too wierd.
We did not see that coming at all.
Felt like a movie that they didn’t know how to end so they just went over the top.
Wonder why they blurred it out every time someone said his bosses name, the guy who Patton Oswalt voiced.

Wow. Really enjoyed this. The confrontation where Cassius and his best friend were fighting through compliments was the hardest I've laughed in a theater in awhile. Didn't really click with the execution of the very end but a 10/10 for me still. Can't wait to see it again.
Best directorial debut since District 9.

Wow, that was crazy and awesome. Agree with Dan that it’s got a Brazil vibe, and The Bus in that it’s my favorite film of the year so far.

Wow, what a strange fucking movie. When I heard this was a "magical realism" sort of movie like Being John Malkovich or Eternal Sunshine, I had to see it.
Felt like a mashup of in-your-face outlandishness like Scott Pilgrim mashed up with John Malkovich's surreal weirdness and a bit of maybe Requiem for a Dream or maybe Shane Corruth's Upstream Color, if you kept just the weirdness of it.
While Eternal Sunshine is my 2nd favorite movie, I didn't like this THAT much. But I did really like it.
It was interesting that the movie didn't go for subtlety most of the time, but instead beat you over the head with its message, kinda like Idiocracy or Officespace?
Btw: trying to not spoil anyone, but at the end, did anyone feel like him turning on them had been an act and that maybe he actually took the money? Cause at the very end it seemed like he was kinda exactly in the position the CEO guy wanted him in. I felt like, well that didn't seem likely, it was left open enough that it was possible.

Took the money? No.
Hammer turned him into that without his consent. Don’t you remember when Hammer took him into his office during the party.
That’s probably why they were breaking into his office.

The "on the nose" factor worked well with the tone of the movie. I was laughing constantly at most of it. Thoroughly entertaining, it reminded me most of Gregg Araki's 90s movies (The Doom Generation, Nowhere, etc; ), but with more coherence, comedy and better pacing.

So, about this movie...
I loved that Riley took chances and was so visually creative in the first half. Cash's desk falling into people's homes during his calls was pretty awesome, except his call to the elderly widow which was rather heartbreaking. I was a phone jockey for over ten years and really appreciated that a filmmaker took a deep-ish dive (albeit an OTT one) into that industry.
I have to say that I admired this film more than I liked it, though. I loved the creativity of the first half but was less taken by the movie once
I also felt the white voice gag was amusing at first, but it went on too long and the movie wound up running it into the ground.
Also, I totally get that comedy is highly subjective, but I'm sorry to say the jokes didn't land for me. I smiled at a few bits but never laughed out loud, not even at the compliments battle (which I thought was pretty inspired) or Cash's rap.
I know this film really won over a lot of people, and I'm super thrilled about that because I really want to see Riley bring his creativity and energy to more movies. For me, I would have to file this one under "a glorious misfire".

I just came back from this and it was surreal to say the least, but it worked for me. Saw it at one of theaters where they play stuff that's been out for a while, so my ticket was only $2.50. MOney well spent and I used Atom, and got my free ticket off of it.
