What a terribly boring and predictable show...
I did win my pool going 19-5. Not too bad. Should’ve went with Shape as that was my gut, but oh well, it won and deserved to do so. I did like it better than 3B...

Then what the hell was this thread for? Seems like the thread was about as dull as the actual show. BTW, you know I'm just busting balls, right?

I gotta agree with Old Boy. It was a dull and predictable show. So much didn't work. Going into the movie theater was probably really exciting for those 150 people, but it was deadly boring for the 1 Billion watching it on TV. McDormand gave the only memorable speech. There were quite literally no surprises (excluding maybe Kobe Bryant -- and "Remember Me", if you're Perkinsun Dzees ). For someone who has become very political in the past year, Kimmell was pretty tame and milquetoast as a host this year.
Time for some new blood next year, I'd say. How about Key & Peele?

Forgot about that one. Good point. He was also a favorite of mine. Loved him in Southern Comfort, Sudden Death, and the Deadwood TV show...He was great in plenty of other things...Oh, and just remembered him in Red Dawn...Don't know how they could've forgotten him...

Deakins finally getting his Oscar, Get Out's original screenplay win, and del Toro taking home statues for Director and Picture all make me a happy camper.

Agree with all of your points, but most of all Deakins finally getting an Oscar...He should've probably won multiple times by now...Especially some of the work he did with the Coens...He should have definitely won for Fargo...

I would have preferred had Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri won Best Picture. Have not seen Molly's Game yet so won't comment on the Adapted Screenplay category, except to say that I thought Call Me by Your Name was a very overrated and pretentious film and did not deserve to win. But I will say that I think Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri should have won in the original category.

an inclusion rider is something actors put into their contracts to ensure gender and racial equality in hiring on movie sets. We should support this for a billion reasons, but if you can't find a reason to, here's one: it will make movies better.

As far as 3B goes. I've covered that ground, so let me just say Get Out was a very clever unexpected movie and the screenplay was a big part of the reason why. It could have been a simple genre horror thriller or sly satire but it ended up being so much more. What a remarkable first film, and from such an unlikely filmmaker.

I think this article spells out some of my opinions rather nicely :
Three Billboards is a lazy, problematic film which didn't deserve an Oscar nomination in any way

Kimmel brings his lame played out Matt Damon shtick to the Oscars
Do they really have to show 2 hrs of technical awards every year and then in the last 20 minutes they bring out all the major awards?
The Golden Globes and SAGs don't do this.
