Again, you make no sense at all. Are you talking about the fact that you never actually called me a bigot? You did though, no directly but that's where ALL (not just you) of you went.

I don't need to stop anything - I have done nothing wrong. You don't have to talk to me either - it's cool.

Obviously just joking here

I’m not sure which is worse; racism or liking Justice League.

I'm not expecting you to admit anything either - just move on from it - there is no reason to discuss this further since you have your minds made up - also, I don't give two shits what you think of me but I'm not going to just sit back and let people call me such insulting trash, shit, things like bigot.
Admit what? When a dozen or so people all feel like your comment felt odd without any context, with some of them politely explaining the reason why, it amuses me that your reaction is that it couldn't possibly be you but to continue to blame everyone else and do so in an insulting manner. The social impacts of Wonder Woman and Black Panther have been a hot topic, so its actually not that crazy for the rest of us here who have been discussing those movies for some time to think of that as the connecting factor between them.

I understand being upset at the connotation that is being aimed at you (and to be fair I think most people were simply explaining that's what it comes off as opposed to calling you a bigot outright), but like I was getting at in my last post it's also not difficult to say "Sorry guys, that's not what I meant at all" rather then call everyone else sad and pathetic.

I see where you're coming from and I'm glad you brought up the part about what I could have possibly said to remedy things but here's my point......If anyone else posted the exact same thing I did I would never in a milion, trillion years equate that to even being remotely racist. So I feel that it's definitely acceptable to think that everyone is out of line for thinking that way.

People want this ridiculous sense of belonging when it comes to media - how about gazillions of people just thought black panther and wonder woman were amazing movies and that's it? Ok, so you like the cultural impact as well - that's fine if it makes you feel good but that's all staements like that are good for - just feel good BS but if those feels make you passionate about pursuing something thna have at it.

Look, I get what you're saying - but none of that applies to the quick reply I wrote at all - I don't want to go off into other avenues on this because it's just not worth it - for me or for you.

It's far more then just "feel good BS" with regards to those movies and their impact, so if that's how you view their place in culture today then I can see why you would be blind to how your statement came across.

And I DO think it's worth the effort when it feels like there's something you're not seeing that everyone else is. I don't mean that in a belittling way, but simply a "hey, this is where everyone else is coming from" even if you don't see it that way.

I know you don't mean anything out of place fumanstan - yeah we've had some heated convos in the past but I always liked that you're straight up.

The cultural impact thing is where we definitely part ways, to me, they're just movies for entertainment - nothing more. High art? Yes of course, but I do not take it any further - these things are fine for discussion and all but I don't look at them as having anything to do with real world impact.

I didn’t think for a second that Rival’s comment had anything to do with racism or anti woman but just him saying he didn’t want to watch the movie because it didn’t look like it would interest him.

To offer a counter argument I had the same skepticism before watching the movie. I was just thinking how weird it is to be looking at a comic book movie for inspiration but after watching the movie I can see what the big deal is. It embraces and pays tribute to multiple cultures and the fact that it had a predominantly black cast and crew while simultaneously not making that the focus of the story really was special. So yes while it is entertainment it can and does have an impact in real society. Someone pointed out when I said it was weird how people were looking to the fictional land of Wakanda and how it was no different how Star Trek was an inspirational cultural phenomenon which had real world impact as well.

Now can we end this part of the discussion and just agree that it was a misunderstanding?

And I actually thought the pitch meeting for Black Panther was better.

For what little it is worth ... I can see how somebody would interpret your post that way, but I also agree the interpretation says more about the interpreter.

You should see both movies. They are both bit over-hyped, but are both definitely entertaining and worth seeing.

Don't we have rules against offering up "opinions" on movies we haven't even seen?

Not on DVD Talk. Outrageous uninformed opinions are part of the magic. My post count would be much lower without them.

Re: Black Panther (Coogler, 2018) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

I watched this last night. I liked it but didn’t love it. To me they spent too much time in Wakanda and I would have preferred they spent more time in the outside world. In the few sequences they were in other cities I thought it was very good. The casino scene as well as the subsequent car chase was awesome but felt short changed to me.

I get that they were establishing the rules for being king but I didn’t need to see two hand-to-hand combat battles for the claim to the throne. It started to feel repetitive. Same as the rituals surrounding becoming “Black Panther”. It started getting a little confusing with giving Black Panther powers, then taking them away, then giving them back, etc. I was having a hard time remembering who had powers at any given time and who didn’t. This was made especially confusing since we saw Black Panther fucking up a caravan of guerrillas before he was given the proper powers? I don’t know.

Over all I will say Killmongers final line about being buried at sea with his ancestors is without a doubt the most powerful line I’ve heard in a Marvel movie to date. I just wish the movie was a little less self contained and would have expanded beyond Wakanda a little more and into the extended universe a bit more. I’m hoping (expecting) BP 2 to do that.

Still better than Doctor Strange though...

And I’ve been debating with myself since the movie ended if Black Panther has the most badass suit or if it’s Iron Man. Great BP costume design, either way.

Before I answer, does Cap have the beard and the extra wavy hair?

Great pitch meeting video, kind of like honest trailers.

Still haven't purchased this movie and have kind of cooled on it since seeing it. I may rent it again to see if it's something to add to the collection.

I liked Dr. Strange better because he was white.

Just kidding, just kidding. Get your panties out of a bunch.

BP was pretty good and I had it in the middle of the pack. But as the pitch video pointed out, the whole; have some powers, now take them away, have them back, survive monstrous cliff fall without them, ride a rhino in spite of supremely advanced tech, has me kind of meh on many parts of this movie. The strongest part was Kilmonger as the villain.

He already had the Panther powers at the start of the movie. He took the medicine to take away his powers prior to the challenge when he ascended to king. This was explicitly stated.

My friend was confused about this too, and all I can say is you both must have missed something, because it is spelled out in the film.

I think my confusion came when we say him with his superpowers at the beginning, then we see him drink a mystery drink at the public ceremony, then we see him drink the glowing flower concoction at the private ceremony, then we see him drink something else at the second public ceremony to take his powers away, etc. This went on and on throughout the movie...

It may have been explicitly stated but it still didn’t help that the plot had him drinking numerous drinks at different stages the movie all of which seemed to do both something to his powers and yet nothing to his powers at the same time.
