That might be for Best Director, but there are only 9 films nominated for BP... so they didn't have to substitute TDA for any other film - they could've just had 8 nominations instead.
I think TDA just got dropped and they left everything else as is.

In any case, I think it's stupid to drop TDA/Franco just because of the allegations. Whether Franco is guilty or not - the work stands on its own merits.

I know there's a lot of Three Billboards dislike on this forum, but damn I hope Sam Rockwell wins an Oscar. Love he's getting all of this recognition.

Disaster Artist didn't get nominated by the Directors at DGA or Bafta which voted well before his scandal came out. Anderson probably leapfrogged the 3 Billboards or Blade Runner Director.

Given that The Florida Project was probably the best (English language) movie of the year, but only got one nomination (for Willem Dafoe), I disagree with you 100%.

Re: 2018 Oscar Nominations

I'm impressed to see Logan nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay. I'm curious if there have been other Adapted Screenplay nominations for "superhero comic" movies.

Absolute bullshit. One of the best films of the year that was nominated for damn near everything else that anyone cares about, and no directing nod. Laughable.

Re: 2018 Oscar Nominations

To each their own. I liked the screenplay and acting, but didn't really care for a lot of the directing choices -- some aspects just came off as too stage-y and bothered me in an otherwise involving film.

Yes. Loved Phantom Thread getting SIX nominations. Who in the world saw that coming?

I think Vicky Krieps should have been nominated for her acting role, though.

I know it is a little and not well known movie, and nobody saw it. But how does an incredible movie like The Florida Project NOT get nominated for Best Picture when there can be up to 10 movies?

Ridiculous. Everyone that sees it says how good it is.

Re: 2018 Oscar Nominations

Just noticed that Roger Deakins got yet another Cinematography nod for Blade Runner.

He's up against Dunkirk, so I guess he'll be 0-14 now.

Re: 2018 Oscar Nominations

I've never seen anything that the current IT GIRL, Tiffany Haddish, has done. But could they at least get someone who can read and speak properly to announced the damn awards?

That was painful to sit through. About halfway through, you just expected her to flub every other name, which should have been rehearsed in the first place. Thank God the King of CGI was there to balance it out.

Glad to see that Baby Driver is at least being recognized in the Sound categories.

Film Editing is one of the major categories, so it has that too.

Same; there's only two I haven't seen yet, and they're both movies I'm actually interested in seeing, so that's actually a decent list.

But BR2049 should have been on there. I kind of expected that it wouldn't, so I'm not surprised... I'm just disappointed.

Re: 2018 Oscar Nominations

The real winner is Movie Pass. Wouldn't have seen so many of these nominated films, if not for that. Plus, will see even more with some of them getting a limited pre-release in Oscar season.

Bummed Logan wasn't up for Best Picture. That would've been something.

People still have to vote for it.

Shape of Water is gonna win it all! It's time to complete the Mexican Directors trilogy -- Cuaron and Iņarritu already have Oscars, so it's time for GDT to join the club.

First year that both Pokémon and Power Rangers were eligible for Oscars and...nothing.

GDT doesn't deserve it until he films a movie in the south pole and has Ron Perlman eat a raw polar bear liver.

Haven't seen it yet, but surprised Detroit didn't get anything.

Whoever is responsible for releasing that in the summer should be fired. That for sure would've been a contender if positioned correctly.

Yes it would. I thought it was way better than the super overrated Zero Dark Thirty.

Yep, bad timing crushed that one.
