Dorothy Malone: 1925-2018

Oscar winning actress Dorothy Malone has passed away at age 92 (almost 93).

She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1957 for her performance in Written on the Wind, but I've always known her most for her performance as a VERY sexy bookstore clerk in The Big Sleep and as a wronged woman with a score to settle in Warlock.

I've been a big fan ever since I first saw that movie 35 years ago.

She was always very sexy. A very good looking woman. I think she looked better in earlier roles as a brunette than her blonde bombshell look.

One of my favs of hers is Pushover(1954). She's the girlfriend of escaped crook and cops are staking out her apartment to catch him if he shows up. Fred MacMurray is one of the cops and falls for her. He commits murder, among other things, to make off with her and the stolen dough. Another upstanding guy brought down by a dame.

I love the little role in The Big Sleep. Talk about standing out.

RIP.

Never knew that was her in Big Sleep, but always loved that scene.

I first saw her in THE LAST SUNSET (1961), but she didn't register with me until BEACH PARTY (1963), where she gave Annette quite a run for her money:

Here she is in THE BIG SLEEP:

She was in a lot of westerns, too.

THE LAST SUNSET, with Rock Hudson:

THE NEVADAN (1950):

Actually, she played the next door neighbor in that one, not the girlfriend. (I just watched it a few weeks ago...)

She was the one who identified MacMurray as the guy in the girlfriend's apartment.

It was Kim Novak who played the girlfriend.

Watched it again last night. I'd forgotten the neighbor part but remembered Malone. Malone trumps Novak in desirability. I'd remembered her as the girl a guy would want and kill for.

Loved Dorothy in PEYTON PLACE tv series.

Also liked in TALL MAN RIDING with Randolph Scott.
