I'm not surprised, the movie just wasn't that good and it wasn't stupid fun like Extraction, Red Notice or The Adam Project either. It was just as forgettable as Project Power. In both cases Netflix missed the chance to expand on an interesting world. The first movie was a success because it was "for free" and starring Will Smith and 5 years later no one is giving it a second thought.

Might've fared better if they'd released it on physical media so the rest of us could enjoy it.

Millions of people saw it for "free" and decided it wasn't any good. Not sure selling a handful of discs would've made a difference. Unless you think this movie has specific appeal to the non-Netflix subscribing, physical media buying demographic.

I think you're over-stating "millions" but more to my point, a lot of us don't stream.

Not sure how they're overstating millions, or did you mean the "thought it wasn't any good." part? Netflix literally has 222m paying subscribers and enough viewed it to at least temporarily warrant a sequel. It had 11 million viewers in its first 3 days.

They tried their hand at selling physical media a few years back to pretty poor results. And their DVD by mail service is down to about 2 million subscribers.

And I think you're overstating "lots of us". Again, unless you think this movie has oddly specific appeal to the non-streaming demographic, releasing this on disc wouldn't affect its reception or chances at a sequel one iota.

So, everybody streams, nobody buys physical media. Gotcha...

^ Not to the extreme that it would have made a difference. Will Smith is toxic right now and Netflix is losing revenue/subscribers, etc., so stuff that isn't in the current pipeline/production is getting axed. It's a two-part component.

Not to the point to justify the costs for Netflix of pressing and distributing it. It's also part of their advertising scheme for the service.

They learned their lesson with those Stranger Things seasons that were fire saled off.

I get it. I prefer physical media too. But if you don't think that the number of people who saw this movie on Netflix dwarfs the number of people who would theoretically see it on disc, then I don't know what to tell you.
