Thoroughbreds (2018, d: Finley) s: Olivia Cooke, Anya Taylor-Joy, Anton Yelchin

Saw the trailer for this before Disaster Artist earlier today and figured I'd make a thread. It appears to be Yelchin's final role.

That aside, it looks like a fun movie.

Synopsis: Two upper-class teenage girls in suburban Connecticut rekindle their unlikely friendship after years of growing apart. Together, they hatch a plan to solve both of their problems-no matter what the cost.

Currently at 83% w/ 23 reviews, 7.2/10 avg.

They should have had Taylor-Joy play Alita, wouldn't need to enhance her eyes.

Saw trailers for this before indie films recently. Looks interesting. It's getting wide release on Mar. 9.

Looks like principal photography finished just 2 weeks before Yelchin's death, so this really is his last role.

I just saw this trailer. I dig it and am looking for to this.

I was a very big fan of Yelchin.

Interesting film. Not sure I'd call it "fun"--it has a slow, sorta menacing pace. I'm really not sure I liked it very much. Not much happens, more of a character study ... It does have a nice shocker ending, even though I'm not convinced the logic of it works. On the plus side, it's very well acted--these two really do feel like strong (scary) examples of their generation.

76 now on Metacritic; 27 positive, 5 mixed, 0 negative.

Olivia Cooke was excellent in The Limehouse Golem.

This opened at #15 with $1.2m from 549 theaters, don't think it'll be expanding.

I thought the girls were great in this, and of course, Yelchin goes without saying. That guy was great and it still bums me out that he is gone. Sparks was really good too.

The film is pretty slow paced, but it is a pretty impressive debut from Finley. The music choices were interesting and worked well with tension.

I liked this. Pretty good, maybe not quite rising to the level of great. I never would have guessed that both leads were British. They did a good job of hiding their accents. Anya Taylor-Joy was perhaps the weaker acting link, as I thought she was on Split too.

I really liked the sound and music design. Some good cinematography too, like those tracking shots through the house. I thought it was really well made without being stylistically gimmicky.

I guess I just felt there wasn't anything really new, subversive, or surprising in this, which kept it from being great.

I found some of the music here. Awesome!

Saw this earlier today and felt the same way. With that said I thought the first half of the film wasn't nearly as strong as the second half.
