David Bowie died a couple years ago. He was 69.

?

Sid owned his role in these movies. Looking forward to seeing what he was able to do. I’m guessing this is his last movie.

Said he filmed one day. He will be a blip on the radar in this one, unfortunately.

Seeing this tomorrow night. I believe the Fathom Events Screenings started yesterday.

Reviews have been rough so far.

Just back... enjoyed it. There was a 15 min or so making of after the movie.

As a huge Zombie fan who owns his entire output to date, I hate to say this was a giant, sad waste of time. I’ll post more detailed thoughts later.

Re: 3 From Hell (2019, D: Rob Zombie) -- sequel to The Devil's Rejects

For context, I’m both a huge fan of Zombie as a musician and filmmaker.

For my money The Devils Rejects was a fantastic throwback to trashy cinema of the 70s. The film was a success in large part due to Sid Haig’s performance as Captain Spaulding AND an incredibly underrated performance by William Forsyth’s as the sheriff hunting them down for revenge. While the trio were entertaining to watch, not once did I find them to be sympathetic or worth rooting for.

In 3 From Hell, Zombie delivers a film 10 years too late, that wasn’t even needed then. It’s a poorly crafted film in both scripting and visual aesthetic. It looks cheap from top to bottom and ultimately is a lifeless, tonally repellent film. To put it bluntly, it’s a D-grade rehash of The Devils Rejects but lacking the magic of that film.

No single scene summarizes the problem with the film more than Sid Haig’s cameo as Spaulding. It’s initially exciting, but very quickly it’s painful to watch a once commanding presence struggle to exude energy for even a few minutes. Haig truly was the backbone and spirit of the two preceding films and I feel moving on without him was a foolish choice.

The remainder of the film film drags on and try as they might Brake and Moseley can only do so much with dialogue that falls flat and tries too hard to shock. Worst of all, there’s no presence like Forsythe to provide a threat to this new trio and Zombie makes a mistake in trying to make rapist, murderer’s sympathetic antiheroes.

Overall, 3 From Hell is a pointless, boring waste of time. Had I not paid double the normal matinee price, I’d likely have walked out midway through. It’s an experience I have no plan or desire to revisit (my 4K disc pre-order has been cancelled) and honestly, I feel like Zombie’s ability to be a viable name in filmmaking is over with this.

Ironically, a bumper sticker that reads “I Survived 3 From Hell” was handed out and I agree with the sentiment, I survived two hours of terrible cinema

Yeah, been seeing bad reviews pop up from my YouTube subscriptions. I'm now glad the Fathom dates are days I have to work.

I appears the trend continues. Every Rob Zombie film is worse than the one that preceded it.

It is unwatchable, but so are Lords Of Salem and 31.

Sorry to hear about Sid's condition and about the quality of this film. I really liked Devil's Rejects and was always a fan of Haig.

Saw this yesterday as part of the Fathom Events' Double Feature with The Devil's Rejects (2005).

Even though I loved Sheri Moon Zombie attempting to push her character a bit further, the film is flat, lacking intensity in its 111-minute run-time.

There are a number of scenes that are re-hashes of ones seen in The Devil's Rejects (2005) but they feel like they were done by a bad cover band.

Bill Moseley & Richard Brake felt wasted here. Moseley's character looks bored compared to previous iterations of Otis & Richard Brake (oddly enough) had better material written for him in Rob Zombie's previous effort, 31.

Checked this out late last night. Absolutely abysmal. And this is coming from someone who loved Lords/Salem and didn’t mind 31.

The only thing I applaud about this is the inclusion of mature skin by Sylvia Jeffries and Maria Conchita Alonso.

Checked this out on redbox last night. I’ll echo everyone else, this was terrible. The dialog and pacing were terrible. Not to mention the basic non-existent plot.
I do wonder if Sid was is better health and was able to do the whole movie, would it have been better? I doubt it though since it was written so poorly.
I wonder if Rob has a good movie in him. Ditch the white trash trope that you use in every fucking film. Do a monster flick or something different. I know he won’t stop casting his wife, so that ordeal will continue.

I think he probably has a great film in him if he'd just get someone else to write it (and maybe demote his wife to a supporting role). He's got the visual chops, and he dives deeper down the cult actor casting lists than Tarantino, which is great, but with each new film it's sad to see him coasting on his name and beating the same dead horses. I assume he just prefers the creative freedom of it all?

Yeah, the problem with Zombie’s films is that he doesn’t seem to care if people like them or not. He makes them because they’re what he and his hardcore fans like but don’t have mainstream appeal mostly. He probably could direct a horror classic if he was willing to let someone else write it for him or at least help write it. He seems content putting out white trash horror though.

He doesn't need money and doesn't care about becoming more famous. I'm a fan of his but not his movies (except the first Halloween which had some good parts) but I'm kinda jealous he's able to do the art he wants without giving a fuck about what everyone else thinks.

Terrible flick - no reason for it to have even be made.

The difference between The Devil's Rejects and 3 From Hell is The Devil's Rejects (successfully I'd say) tries to get you to feel some affection for three disgusting monsters. 3 From Hell assumes you have that affection and it's a real turn off.
