In 17th Century Amsterdam, an orphaned girl (Alicia Vikander) is forcibly married to a rich and powerful merchant (Christoph Waltz) - an unhappy "arrangement" that saves her from poverty. After her husband commissions a portrait, she begins a passionate affair with the painter (Dane DeHaan), a struggling young artist. Seeking to escape the merchant's ever-reaching grasp, the lovers risk everything and enter the frenzied tulip bulb market, with the hope that the right bulb will make a fortune and buy their freedom.
Opens this weekend.

Considering how much this forum hates on Dane, but loves Alicia, this movie will be a tough choice.

Actually Tom, this forum hates Tulip (see Preacher thread) and Dane, so Alicia might be able to overcome the distaste for Dane or Tulip, but maybe not both. I admit the film sounds different than what you usually get from period romance films...but still something I would only consider watching once it hits cable/streaming.

By all accounts, this movie is terrible and was filmed way back in 2014 and has sat on the shelf since then. It's this year's The Light Between Oceans, and even shares its Labour Day release date.
