Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982) -- Discussion Thread
Surprised there aren't any threads really discussing the film.
It is being celebrated for its 35th anniversary this year. Fathom Events had some screenings last week I believe.
I gave it a rewatch yesterday. I think it holds up well. I still enjoy it very much and get a lot of laughs out of it.
The cast, of course, is just great. And I'm sure everyone gained extra strength in their arms from the Phoebe Cates scene.
I'm about to go on a big Jennifer Jason Leigh binge after this (and watching Atypical).

I always loved the way Damico says "we came over to help you with your math home-work." Just so suave and 80s cool. It's a great film. I could watch it over and over.

It's crazy to think how many of the actors who, played high school kids in this are already sixty or pushing it.

As much as I love John Hughes Teenage films of the 80's, this movie holds up much better after all of these years.

I didn't see this when it came out and it only really crossed my radar in the late '90s or early 2000s when I saw it on two different nephews' video shelves--probably the oldest film in their collections--and I was intrigued enough to watch it myself when it came on cable one night to try and figure out why they liked it. I never did figure it out.
But then I'm not crazy about any high school movie or TV show that wasn't made in the 1950s or animated in Japan in the last 20 years.

Loved it! There were some changes made from the book, but it was pretty spot on.

I read the book excerpt in Rolling Stone way before the movie was made. To be honest, I was initially put off by the casting of Mr. Hand. I was expecting someone that bore more of a resemblance to Jack Lord. But, over time, I warmed up to Ray Walston.
And let's not forget a debut cameo by a very young Nicolas Cage, who used his real name Coppola back then.
Still a great movie to watch. So many memorable lines.

Anyone in NYC ever been to her overpriced store, Blue Tree?
Also... her daughter unfortunately didn't get her good looks. She makes good music though!

I wish there was a way to get old TV cuts of films. I remember when this used to air on TBS or something during the 80's and 90's and was almost a different movie with all the scenes they put back in to make up for what had to be cut. To my knowledge these have never turned up on any home release format.

Goddamn Jennifer Jason Leigh was such a whorish wannabe-slut in this movie. Something like this couldn't be released today without major changes. Still Sean Penn's best role.

Robert Romanus did not do much after this movie.
Is Universal going to release a anniversary blu-ray? I feel stupid for buying it last year.
I got these from Zappos to pay my respects to Spicoli.
