Most Blatant Money Grab Sequels

We all know that Hollywood makes sequels to make an extra buck off the successes of the previous installment(s). My question is, which one do you feel was the most blatant?

For me, off the top of my head, Home Alone 2. Nearly the same exact plot, just taking out of the house into NYC.

Speed 2: Cruise Control

Totally unnecessary sequel without the excitement of the original. So obvious it was rushed to capitalize of the first being a sleeper hit.

Ridiculous that it had over quadruple the budget of the first. I saw it in theaters ans was hugely disappointed. Never bothered owning it.

The Hobbit "trilogy". 300-something pages of storytelling turned into three damn movies.

The Dark Knight Trilogy. We had two perfect Batman films already, we didn't need anymore.

To go along those same lines I'd suggest any series' final film that's broken up into 2 parts. Harry Potter and The Hungar Games are two that immediately come to mind.

Fuck that bullshit!!

Give it a fucking rest already. And your answer makes no sense then... If there were "two perfect Batman films already" the two subsequent films would be the answer...assuming you mean the first two... because otherwise... wtf.

City Slickers II: The Legend of Curly's Gold - There was a movie absolutely nobody wanted.
The Sting II - Replacing Paul Newman and Robert Redford with Jackie Gleason and Mac Davis? Probably not the best idea in cinematic history.

Strongly disagree. They were bad movies, but they were highly demanded sequels before anyone saw them. They certainly didn't feel like pointless money grabs when they were being made. Folks were really looking forward to seeing Matrix Reloaded before it came out. I think it was on the cover of Time Magazine.

Ace Ventura 2: When Nature Calls. This came 1 year after the original and it looks like they wrote the script in a weekend as it's so bad. Even Jim Carrey said he would never do another sequel after it.

I was actually expecting 2 movies out of that, it was planned that way pretty early on, then they changed the gameplan to make it into 3 movies and that was when I had to shake my head and call it a blatant cash grab. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed them, maybe not as much as LOTR, but they were still entertaining to me. I just wish he'd stayed with 2.

Re: Most Blatant Money Grab Sequels

I mean, generally most sequels are blatant money grab sequels. The Fast & the Furious franchise, The Transformers franchise, almost every horror movie sequel. This thread would have been faster to answer if the question was sequels that weren't money grabs.

I was curious which one (or ones) YOU (generally) felt was the most blatant of the bunch.
