$60 mil budget? I'm wagering it'll bring in $50 mil max. More realistically $30 mil or so. I'm guessing it'll fare slightly better abroad.

stolen from another forum...
Rotten Tomatoes

http://www.indiewire.com/2017/08/the...ba-1201861528/
Fans of King’s books will likely be disappointed by the way this long-awaited film adaptation speeds through essential plot points and frantically introduces characters with little in the way of rhythm or care, all in service of a rushed finale that will leave plenty scratching their heads

http://birthmoviesdeath.com/2017/08/...k-tower-review
No, the biggest problem is how lifeless it all feels, how limp-wristed and lame the final product is.

http://www.vulture.com/2017/08/maybe...er-sequel.html
Never say never, but there’s not a lot of reason to hope for The Dark Tower II: Electric Towerloo.

http://collider.com/the-dark-tower-review/
The Dark Tower doesn’t even really do us the courtesy of being laughably bad. That would take some level of ambition, which the movie studiously avoids at almost every turn. Instead, it simply exists, eager to be overlooked and forgotten.

http://uproxx.com/movies/the-dark-tower-review/
This final product reminds me a lot of the GOP healthcare plan: You’ve had all this time and THIS is what you come up with? I can already picture John McCain strolling into a theater this weekend, giving a dramatic thumbs down, killing The Dark Tower forever.
What a damn disappointment...

I'd be shocked if it makes $30. The Dark Tower is my favorite book series, but this just looks like it has "bomb" written all over it. It should absolutely appeal to me but nothing in the marketing is screaming "go see it!" I have to imagine I'm not the only DT fan in this boat.

That being said I overheard a couple of ladies discussing "The Tower" movie the other day. Reason? They wanted to see that new Matthew mcconaughey movie. So I guess anything is possible at this point.

As somebody with zero familiarity with the source material (and a fondness for both leads), this film, from the trailers, looks like an absolute mess. Easy pass for me.

Once this comes out on home video, how many people will immediately rent The Two Towers so they can see the sequel and get resolution?

Re: The Dark Tower (Nikolaj Arcel, 2017) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

IGN posted a review tonight.

They weren't impressed either. Gave it a 5.0 out of 10. Average.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/XyL-xL_287c" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Review is super short. Only 2 1/2 minutes for those who don't like to watch long YouTube videos.

Sinking like a ship on RT.

I wasn't interested in this to begin with... definitely passing on it this weekend.

Re: The Dark Tower (Nikolaj Arcel, 2017) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

Watched a video review of a YouTube channel I subscribe to. One reviewer is a huge King fan and the other is a fringe fan who hadn't read the books.

Both were very disappointed. The non-fan was the most optimistic before seeing it. He said the movie felt like stuff was missing and he never read the books. They said the movie will bomb bad.

They even mentioned the theater was 2/3 full, even though they were told only two could attend the screening because it was totally booked.

I was going tomorrow to see it. Guess I'll catch something else.

I'm really bummed to be reading this feedback... but this just isn't the type of source material you turn into a feature film. In 2017 it'd be SO easy to series this on any one of a dozen types of services (HBO, Netflix, Hulu). Ugh... so disappointing.

Re: The Dark Tower (Nikolaj Arcel, 2017) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

If the reviews trickling out are to be believed then this deserves to bomb. It sounds like it was a rush job, for some strange reason, with a director in over his head, and a super stingy budget.

In an era where book series' are given entire series' runs and film series' are planned out multiple movies in advance, it's indefensible for the studio to pull this shit.

Yet...they are still moving forward with the TV series:

I can't help but think of the Star Wars: Clone Wars show. It started with a theatrical movie that was really just 4 episodes put together and it wasn't a very good story. But then the TV show ran for 6 seasons and is one of the greatest additions the SW canon ever created.

Re: The Dark Tower (Nikolaj Arcel, 2017) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

I like the books and a lot of King's other works so it's a shame that it sounds like this is bad. Agree with the consensus that from the trailers it's looked bad all along though. I'll pass in theaters but will probably watch it someday on Blu-ray or one of the premium channels. Hopefully the series is better. I always thought it make for a better series anyways.

I'm not surprised at the (relatively) low budget - the trailers looked cheap. At first, I thought it was an ad for the TV series instead of the movie.

This reminds me of Suicide Squad. Lots of bad buzz. But I suspect I'm still going to enjoy it.

Re: The Dark Tower (Nikolaj Arcel, 2017) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

Saw this last night. I am a huge DT fan.

It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't my Dark Tower. That's not my Roland, nor my Jake, nor my Walter. It's something inspired by the DT series which features characters similar to the book series. It's a mid-00s grade Sci-fi flick.
Spoiler:
I thought the Taheen were handled well, the succubus was neat to see.

Once i disconnected my DT expectations from what I was watching, it was a decent way to kill 90 minutes.

^^ I guess that's the right attitude going into this. I really, really want to see it in the theater despite the reviews. I spent 3 years getting thru the books... and I'm certainly happy to hear there will be a proper TV series.

Only read the first two books but this pretty much sums it up. Caught this today and once you look at it as just another sci-fi flick, it's somewhat decent. On the bright side I now know that I can read the rest of the books and not really have much spoiled for me.
