I created a Future Valiant Cinematic Universe thread... but I guess this can have it's own. Leto sort of looks like Bloodshot? Though I think he would make a better Rai.

re: Bloodshot (2020, D: Dave Wilson) S: Vin Diesel

Vin Diesel is in talks to star in Sony’s “Bloodshot” movie based on the Valiant comic, TheWrap has learned.

Sony revealed it would be moving forward with its five-film shared universe plan for joint franchises based on the Valiant comic books “Harbinger” and “Bloodshot.”

“Bloodshot” is about a mortally wounded soldier resurrected with cutting-edge nanotechnology and tasked with rounding up superpowered outcasts known as “harbingers.” “Bloodshot” was created by Kevin Van Hook, Don Perlin and Bob Layton in 1992.

The film will also reunite Diesel with “Fast and the Furious” mega-producer Neal Moritz, who is producing alongside Valiant’s Dinesh Shamdasani.

Dave Wilson, who is “Deadpool” director Tim Miller’s partner at Blur Studios, is attached to direct. Oscar-nominated screenwriter Eric Heisserer (“Arrival”) is writing the screenplay.

According to insiders, Sony and Wilson plan to follow in the footsteps of the recent success of “Logan” and “Deadpool” with an R-rated take on the comic adaptation that will be tonally and aesthetically influenced by high-concept, sci-fi blockbusters of the late ’80s including “Robocop,” “Terminator,” and “Total Recall.”

“Bloodshot” will be a return to Diesel’s roots — he launched to international fame as a hard-hitting action star in “xXx” and “Pitch Black” before locking into “The Fast and the Furious” series. Diesel was also 2017’s top-grossing actor at the box office. According to Forbes, Diesel topped the list with $1.6 billion in global ticketing receipts, thanks to the success of “xXx: The Return of Xander Cage” and “Fate of the Furious.”

Diesel is now locking down a superhero franchise to call his own — one that Sony is targeting as a hard-R, big-budget tentpole for 2019.

Valiant’s library is truly one of the great and as-yet untapped wells of intellectual property. The publisher’s bench of more than 2,000 superhero characters (with lifetime sales of more than 80 million copies) makes it the third largest library of superheroes behind Marvel and DC — and the only one not currently owned by a major conglomerate.

Diesel is repped by CAA. Sony had no comment.

re: Bloodshot (2020, D: Dave Wilson) S: Vin Diesel

EXCLUSIVE, UPDATED with additional castings: Outlander’s Sam Heughan is set to join Vin Diesel in Bloodshot for Sony Pictures. The pic, which marks Diesel’s first starring superhero film, starts production in July with Dave Wilson directing and Neal H. Moritz producing. The film is casting up quickly, with Eiza Gonzalez and Michael Sheen also coming aboard.

Bloodshot is a central character in the Valiant Expanded Universe – a comic book universe composed of a diverse array of thousands of characters embodying a wide variety of genres, tones and demographic groups and over 81 million comics sold. Valiant’s superheroes are ordinary people in extraordinary situations rather than gods and demi-gods; they are complex characters that reflect contemporary society, politics, and diversity of the modern world.

Wilson is a director at Blur Studios, the VFX factory owned by Tim Miller, who directed the first Deadpool and is reviving the Terminator franchise. Pic re-teams Fast and the Furious‘ Moritz and Diesel. Sony is hoping to launch a franchise here through the Bloodshot comic universe.

The film fits nicely into Heughan’s hiatus before he returns for Outlander, which recently got a two-season pickup from Starz. Heughan next stars with Kate McKinnon and Mila Kunis in The Spy Who Dumped Me, which Lionsgate releases August 3.

He’s represented by UTA and United Agents in the UK.

Variety broke the news of Gonzalez and Sheen boarding the pic.

Film News Roundup: Toby Kebbell Joins Vin Diesel’s ‘Bloodshot’ for Sony Pictures
By Dave McNary

In today’s film news roundup, Toby Kebbell joins Vin Diesel in “Bloodshot,” “Rockbarnes: The Emperor in You” gets a release, and Dana Brunetti unveils a new production company.

Toby Kebbell will join Vin Diesel in “Bloodshot” for Sony Pictures in the role of Axe with principal photography starting in July.

Eiza Gonzalez, Michael Sheen, Sam Heughan, Talulah Riley, and Alex Hernandez also star. Dave Wilson of Blur Studios will direct and Neal H. Moritz is producing.

“Bloodshot,” first published in 1992, centers on a mortally wounded soldier with powers of regeneration and meta-morphing made possible through nano-machines in his bloodstream. “Bloodshot” was created by Kevin Van Hook, Don Perlin, and Bob Layton for Valiant. Over its comic-book run, “Bloodshot” totaled 110 issues with more than 7.5 million copies sold.

Kebbell’s credits include “The Fantastic Four,” the rebooted “Planet of the Apes” franchise, “Kong: Skull Island,” “Warcraft,” and “RocknRolla.” The news was first reported by the Wrap.

Guy Pearce in Talks to Replace Michael Sheen in Sony’s ‘Bloodshot’ (EXCLUSIVE)
By JUSTIN KROLL Justin Kroll

Guy Pearce is in talks to replace Michael Sheen in Sony’s “Bloodshot” based on the Valiant comic and starring Vin Diesel, sources tell Variety.

The pic also stars Eiza Gonzalez. Sheen was forced to leave the film due to scheduling, and the studio was quick to act to find a replacement, as the movie is currently in production.

The studio had already announced it would be moving forward with its five-film shared universe plan, based on the Valiant comic books “Harbinger” and “Bloodshot.”

“Bloodshot” is about a mortally wounded soldier resurrected with cutting-edge nanotechnology and tasked with rounding up superpowered outcasts known as “harbingers.” “Bloodshot” was created by Kevin Van Hook, Don Perlin, and Bob Layton in 1992. The project has big franchise potential for Sony.

Pearce would play Dr. Emil Harting, the genius responsible for the nanotechnology that exists inside the human body to not only repair it, but push it further than normal human limitations.

“Fast and the Furious’” Neal Moritz is producing alongside Dinesh Shamdasani. Dan Mintz is executive producing. Dave Wilson, who is “Deadpool” director Tim Miller’s partner at Blur Studio, is attached to helm. Oscar-nominated screenwriter Eric Heisserer (“Arrival”) is penning the screenplay.

Pearce was most recently seen in “The Catcher and the Spy” opposite Paul Rudd and will next appear in the Focus Features period pic “Mary Queen of Scots.” He is repped by CAA, Independent Talent Group, and Shanahan Management.
Spoiler:
That may not be the only acting replacement.. stay tuned.

Almost seems like where the Fast & Furious franchise is headed. I see the director is a video game effects guy-slash-trailer director helming a feature after one TV episode. That gives me pause, but I'll check this out eventually. Some of the cityscapes suggest they filmed partly in Hong Kong, but who knows if it's not all CG these days. The extended crew list at IMDB includes a lot of folks from South Africa and Canada, so maybe those were the primary locations.

What's up with trailers having a money shot before the trailer even starts?

"Look! A guy's face is blowing up! This trailer's gonna be CRAZY! Can you watch 90 seconds of less exciting stuff before we show you the face blowing up again?"

That fall down the elevator shaft made the "burly brawl" look like Citizen Cane of CGI. I've seen fan trailers with more attention to detail.

I'll have to go back thru my early issues of Valiant to remember any of Bloodshot's story. Not sure if they're following that or the new rebooted series.

If he's going to look like this in the film, shouldn't they show it in the trailer. Make it look more "comic book movie"-like and distinctive?

How many people "remembered" Deadpool? Outside of a few thousand comic book nerds, that was a dead property to the population at large.

I think that's what he'll eventually look like at the end of the film. I've never read the comic, so I don't know if that's how he started of he was always albino looking.

Saw this trailer in the theater the other day. I imagined it was going to be gosh awful, and am sort of over Vin Diesel, but I think I liked it.

Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence, some suggestive material and language.
