Ive always been a fan of this guy and smile when I saw him on screen. It was great seeing him in Sopranos too!

A shock he died close by in Palo Alto and the Bay Area
Yes one of the many stars who did a guest spot on that show.
I just watched the Miami Vice episode with him last night. What a shame.

Other than the Home Alone films, I remember him most for his part on The Sopranos - I remember when Tony hired him to tail Dr. Melfi and he wound up beating up her date for the evening.

Was he home alone when he died?

I wasn't really aware of him until somebody mentioned he was Commander Barry Garner on nuBSG. He was the Chief Engineer promoted to Captain after Cain and Fisk were removed.
And, yeah, John Hurt dying so soon really sucked, only got to be in Doctor Who for a few years.

When I read that he had passed for some reason I thought that he had already kicked a while back. I think I must be mixing him up with another similar looking actor, not John Hurt. Any guesses?

I'll always remember him as Reverend Dimmesdale from the 1979 version of The Scarlet Letter

We got to watch it in English class in High School after slogging through the book. I think it was 3 whole days with an 18" TV in front of the class.
