There seems to be a Twitter movement to get this guy in the role of Shang-Chi.

I would approve that. Or as Liu Kang in the Mortal Kombat reboot.

I don't like the disrespect thrown at Bruce Lee in that trailer.

So, I know a lot of you think Tarantino can do no wrong but for me, he's been stumbling like crazy. IB was way to talky and boring, Django was just decent, and the Hateful 8 - I remember watching this without my undivided attention and really liking it but then went back to it for a full second sit through and just found it pointless and definitely some of his most embarrassing dialogue and missteps yet.

This flick looks different from anything he's ever done and if the trailer is any indication, this film will have zero plot like hateful 8 did.

Hey I love great acting too and while the hateful 8 had some of that, it's not enough to push a film to the finish line when there is literally nothing going on. I'm not the biggest fan of brad pitt either, just don't think he's a very good actor.

I think Tarantino entered his self-indulgent period with Kill Bill.

It’s not a bad pair of films, but you can see he’s doing a lot of stuff just to amuse himself. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

Wasn't big on IB, but I very much enjoyed Django. I agree with the Hateful 8 sentiments although I didn't like it my first watch so I never bothered to re-watch it. Maybe most Tarantino films just aren't for me though because I did not like Kill Bill either.

True but they were defintiely entertaining and went somewhere overall. I don't blame people who were put off by Vol. 2 after the crazy Vol. 1 but luckily I fell in the camp who really dug Vol. 2

Yeah, Kill Bill is where I checked out of the Tarantino love fest. Way too self-indulgent for what should have been a breezy, entertaining grindhouse flick. Like Stephen King, he was at his best when he had a good editor.

Sally Menke edited Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2, Death Proof, and IB. The having a good editor statement makes no sense since you "checked out" while his one and only editor also worked on every film prior.
The only time QT ever had a different editor was for Django and H8 after Menke died.

IB and Django are brilliant God damn movies. “Too talky” holy shit!

They both require a lot of prerequisite knowledge of history. That may ruin a bit of the fun for some folks.

prerequisite knowledge of history is not an excuse for an overly talky boring film. I said Django was decent.

What I mean is that starting with Kill Bill, his films are too self-indulgent. Sometimes when artists get very successful, nobody wants to tell them they're wrong, which is why I brought up Stephen King and having an editor. A better comparison might have been George Lucas on the prequels. I feel like someone should have told Quentin that Kill Bill doesn't need to be longer than 100 minutes.

FWIW, I would say "a lot of little prerequisite knowledge of history" might be helpful.

Gotcha. I still disagree, but thanks for clarifying.

They tried to tell him it was too fucking long, but then someone realized that they could sell us 2 Tarantino movies out of one production and everybody shut up about that.

I wish whoever told Quentin to trim Django, didn't. That original cut was brutally awesome.

Me too. How did you see a cut other than the theatrical one?
