Big Summer blockbusters and action movies play best in China. A quirky period drama loosely based on real events would not play well at all over there.

and yea who cares what the China film market decides to show over there from the States. The only people that should care are the studios and their accountants.

OUATIH opened in the summer, had two of the biggest stars in the world, and was a blockbuster that made almost $400 million.

But I agree it’s not exactly the usual idiotic fare they lap up. They probably wouldn’t even realize it’s a period film.

Wasn't Brad Pitt banned in China for Making Seven Years In Tibet? Do the Chinese even know who Brad Pitt is?

What’s there to like?

Oh wait, the food. The food is great!

Oh wait, that was invented here.

I got nothing.

THR reported earlier on Oct. 18 that the release of the acclaimed film, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt, has been put on hold indefinitely. No explanation was given to Sony Pictures Entertainment, the studio behind the film, as to why. Sony declined to comment.

The decision to halt the release is speculated to be about Tarantino's portrayal of the late martial arts hero Bruce Lee, who was of Chinese descent.

Huh.

I have some Chinese heritage.

I guess that could be something.

I dunno, I could be wrong.

Anyway, back to this movie...

I've been kind of bummed I'm not excited to see it again. I've had plenty of opportunities to catch it in the theater again, and it's even still playing five minutes from me. But it was so long I'm just not that excited to see it again. I think it would be me "sitting through it" again. It's not where I want to be. It's very well-made. It looks great, and I like the characters. The meandering, dragging plot is just too much for me.

Genuinely curious why you're "bummed" about not wanting to see it again. Does it have something to do with feeling like you're missing out on a theatre experience? Not every movie begs for multiple viewing. Why feel bad that your natural reaction is, "Yeah, I loved watching it, but once was enough." ?

I am a lifelong fan of Monty Python and my opinion just dropped 25%. That was lifeless, unfunny, and utterly cringeworthy.

Good question. I think it's because I've never felt that way about a Quentin Tarantino film before. In fact, I've seen all the others over and over. I can see myself watching this again or picking it up on a good deal but it doesn't have a draw for me the way the others do. And that's not where I want to be with a Tarantino flick.

I just read that it will not be released in China at all. I guess QT stood his ground. Good for him.

Most likely the Chinese people who wants to watch it will just pirate a copy like they did with Django Unchained.

Yes, now they’ll do a pirate job on it. That’s what they’re best at.

Why on earth would you come back to this dormant thread, quote my question, and double down on bizarre racist nonsense, particularly in a time when bizarre racist nonsense toward people of Chinese or Asian heritage is getting innocent people assaulted and what were you possibly hoping to get out of it?!

Because I'll tell something you got out of it:

Mod Warning: KNOCK IT OFF. Take a break, or earn a break, but your bizarre racist nonsense isn't welcome here.

I haven’t said anything racist. I simply dislike how companies like Disney and many many others have gotten involved with China. We are living the result of bad choices: attempts at censorship and boycott and more.

First sign of racists is when they don't own up to the racist comments they say. Maybe sit the next few rounds out.

When the PRC was strongly allied with the African National Congress back in the ‘80s and was highly critical of apartheid in South Africa was that Chinese people being racist toward white people? No. It was the correct reaction to an evil political regime. If I stand against the Chinese government and their attempts to influence our economy and our cinema it is not a racist action.

Watched this the other day. The scene where Pitt and DiCaprio are watching the FBI episode. Burt Reynolds guest starred in the actual episode. They put DiCaprio's face on Reynold's body.
