Re: Star Wars is 40 years old

Born in '76 outside of the states so I probably didn't see it 'til months or even a year after when I was 2. So I'm one of the lucky ones that don't remember a time when there was no Star Wars. It's so ingrained in my personality that whenever there's a meeting here at work, I always check in with "Red 5 standing by". And when someone asks, "what is Red 5?" I can answer without even thinking about it, "It was Luke Skywalker's call sign at the Battle of Yavin"

Happy Birthday Star Wars.

And then you have to explain what Yavin is.

Was this when Mr. "Never tell me the Odds" said "Great shot kid! That was 1 in a million"?

If you think they took a long time getting Star Wars, consider that Carry On Doctor was made in 1967.

Eh, they look to be the cockney equivalent of a Tyler Perry film. Not sure how well that humor plays outside of merry olde England.

Huh, I never saw/had the storybooks--those look pretty cool. I did also have the giant-size Marvel adaptations of the first two, and I had most of the first few series of Star Wars cards.

Also, this book which included the whole screenplay. I read this so many times, that when SW was re-released in '79 or'80 and I went to see it, I could recite almost every line in the movie along with the actors.

I had Splinter of the Mind's Eye, the first novel. I bought it from the Science Fiction Book Club.

The author of that is still involved with the franchise- wrote the adaptation of The Force Awakens.

Didn't know they published the complete script- someone should take it and re-make the movie!

Same person also wrote the original novel even though George's name is on the cover.

...but it's cool if George takes ideas from old Samurai films?

I saw that next to the "Who is Jesus?" and "Who is Martin Luther King?" at the Barnes & Noble. No joke.
