I'm going to have to agree here. He's big in certain circles. But the average person is not going to have a clue.

He's better known than he was before The Avengers, but still not widely known.

This. I would bet 90% of the people who saw the Avengers movies couldn't tell you who directed them.

Fanboy Ginger Fapfest ... where do I get my tickets? Promises to be better than the Fresh Prince fan festival.

Great name for a bar or a band.

Fanboys and serious movie fans only. You could list all the truly famous directors to the general public on one hand, and Whedon isn't one of them.

I can see her as Catwoman tho. She got 5 fingers on the dome. Still cute...I'd smash with my Batschlong.

No idea who this is but out of everyone posted thus far, she gets my vote. Looks like she could have pulled off Lara Croft too.

I could see them using "The Director of Avengers" in the marketing.

A DC film by the Director of Marvel's Avengers?

I don't think so.

[Set the Wayback machine to 2006 and...]

A Superman film by the Director of Marvel's X-Men?

I don't think so.

Good point. Superman Returns was terrible.

Whedon's a better director than Singer, and there's never been a Batgirl movie to rip-off, so there's that then.

re: Batgirl (D: El Arbi / Fallah) [CANCELLED]

I know I'm in the minority but I kind of like some aspects of Superman Returns. It's very much trying to emulate the Donner/Reeve films but I liked the light hearted tone of it and Routh really wasn't a bad choice to play Superman.

This may actually be my most anticipated DC film along with the Nightwing film because both are characters I enjoy and are fresh to the big screen. I'm all for more Bat Family films but just hope we can get away from the tone of the Snyder films.

I'll ask again? Why are so many people excited for this? The character has always seemed laughable in my opinion, whether from the old TV show to the Schumacher shitfest. Ok so she had a couple of decent storylines in comics, but what does the character bring to the table which has not already been said with Batman? And for me Whedon has only ever done one good thing... The Avengers. Never dug Buffy, Firefly, Age of Ultron. Nothing else.

She's probably had more successful stories written with her as the main focus than just about any other female superhero, including Wonder Woman.

Batgirl is the most relatable female hero in comic books and it's not particularly close. Whedon is a great choice for the character, though I wonder how much he understands her place in the Batman mythos.

We desperately need female protagonists.

After the failure of this week's Ghost in the Shell, Black Widow's fans can kiss a solo movie goodbye.
