In other words, if you don't live in/near a major city, this won't be playing near you. If you do, it will probably be playing in ONE theater for a week or maybe two.

Kevin "claims" this is the best way to roll out a movie like this for his fans. But let's be honest, if the studio had ANY faith in its box office potential, it would go wide. Looks like most of us won't see it until it hits digital, which won't be until at least late winter or spring 2020.
I don't see Saban sitting on this until 2020. Just because he is doing the road show doesn't mean they won't put it out on digital rental, which is what they do for majority of their films.

It probably really is the best way to release a movie like this.

In the Age of Imax, there's not a lot of room for indie and cult movies at the multiplex, so taking a movie with a small but passionate audience like this out on tour is probably a good option rather than releasing it wide and having it get devoured by whatever big budget films are showing that week.

He likes pop culture, comics and superhero movies. Who are you to say that needs to stop with this "Childish crap" and grow up?

Millions of people enjoy that stuff. It's not just Smith.

Maybe he doesn't care about being an acclaimed filmmaker. He directs a few episodes of TV per year, writes some comic books and hosts his YouTube channel to talk pop culture. He's happy and enjoys what he does and now that he finally got himself healthy, he can enjoy it even longer.

I thought the same.

Agreed.
I think he has had so many misses (critical and/or money losers), that getting backing from a major studio ain't happening.
It's a shame he doesn't realize his own strengths and weaknesses.

Hell, Netflix wouldn't even pick up Mallrats 2 after he got basically the whole cast to come back. I was really surprised when I heard that. I'll be seeing this for sure but I much rather would have gotten M2 over this.

This.

Also, he tried to "grow up" with Jersey Girl and got savaged for it. Chasing Amy and Dogma are head and shoulders above Smith's usual fare, but he said that the extent what any substantial thing he has to say.

Dogma is his best film IMO.
The only movie he has made that doesn't start to fall apart 2/3 of the way thru.

Red State showed a lot of promise for Smith...then he just went off the deep end with Tusk and Yoga Hosers. I saw Red State and while I didn't love it, I thought it showed growth for him as a director...but he's just regressed since then.

Yeah, if I hadn’t know who directed Red State, I probably wouldn’t have guessed it was Kevin Smith. It took a lot more chances visually than he normally does,

I think he needs to lay off the hash pipe.

If anyone wonders why he can't get stuff like Mallrats 2 and Clerks 3 made, just watch Tusk and Yoga Hosers and it will be no mystery why he has difficulty financing projects.

I could be wrong but I think he’d still get a theatrical release for Clerks 3 (but only that). I’ve never heard that was stopped for any reason other than Jeff Anderson .

Re: Jay & Silent Bob Reboot (2019, D: Kevin Smith)

I remember an interview where Patrick Swayze said that he was frustrated with not being offered the parts he was looking for so he decided that he would just do what he wanted to do and if it screwed up his career so be it. I think Smith is basically like that now. His attempts to "grow up" were not well received, and he decided to spend more time focusing on his Kevin Smith brand and doing whatever he felt like that he figured career be damned.

Red State and Tusk are 2 movies that couldn't stick the landing (YH was a movie that couldn't stick the OPENING ).

This shit comes out in December?

I think Chris Rock's appearance in the original is one of the best parts of the film.

3 shows here in KC have all sold out. At least I won't be tempted to attend now.

It's a strategy to help it's Oscar chances as it'll be fresh in the Academy's mind when they vote.

A friend of mine got his Funko Pop Jay doll signed by Mewes and said "loves the cock."
