‘Captain Phillips’ Writer Billy Ray to Rewrite New ‘Terminator’ Movie

Deadpool's Tim Miller, who will direct the untitled sequel for a July 26, 2019, release. They assembled a writers room with scribes David Goyer, Charles Eglee, Josh Friedman and Justin Rhodes as well as Ellison, a lifelong Terminator fan (Cameron himself shows up once a week), and have crafted what they want to be a trilogy with Schwarzenegger, 70, and original star Linda Hamilton, 61, passing the torch to a young female lead.
Curious why they hired Billy Ray when they already formed a writer's room with 5 writers.
I'm guessing Ray will probably get a screenplay credit?

That's a pretty great writer's room. Here's an in-depth interview about it.

'Terminator' Reboot Taps Mackenzie Davis to Star
The 'Blade Runner 2049' actress would play a solder-assassin on a mission.
Mackenzie Davis is in negotiations to join Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger in the latest Terminator movie.
Tim Miller is directing the reboot, which for the first time since 1991’s Terminator: Judgment Day, has James Cameron involved. Skydance, the company behind 2015's Terminator: Genisys and Annihilation, is producing the new movie.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it is understood that Davis will play a solder-assassin on a mission. It is a human character in a movie that once again sets up the battle between (wo)man and machine.
While Davis has a key role in the movie, she may not be the reboot’s true star. The producers have been undergoing an intense, and so far fruitless search to find a Latina for the story’s main role, according to sources. That is a role that would span all three movies of the intended trilogy. It is unclear how many movies Davis’ deal calls for.
The untitled rebotoot is set for July 26, 2019.

‘Terminator’ Reboot Pushed Back Three Months
Paramount has pushed the sixth “Terminator” movie back three months.
The studio said the move is not related to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s open-heart surgery last week.
The studio made the announcement Friday that it was changing the release date of the untitled movie from July 26, 2019, to Nov. 22, 2019. Paramount said that the date change had been in the works prior to his undergoing the emergency procedure at a Los Angeles hospital.
Schwarzenegger’s spokesman said on March 30 that the 70-year-old actor said “I’m back” on waking up from the procedure and was in good spirits. Schwarzenegger, who served as governor of California from 2003-2011, was attached last year to return to the “Terminator” franchise for the sixth film in the series.
Linda Hamilton will be returning as Sarah Connor, with Schwarzenegger also on board to reprise the role of his iconic cyborg. The sequel will be produced by Skydance and series creator James Cameron. The upcoming film will mark the first time that Hamilton, Schwarzenegger, and Cameron will be working together on the franchise since 1991’s “Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, although Cameron has said that the film will be a direct sequel to “Terminator 2: Judgment Day.”
Hamilton starred in the first two pics, starting with “The Terminator,” which was released in 1984. Connor was a waitress hunted down by a killer cyborg, played by Schwarzenegger, sent from the future to kill her in order to prevent her from giving birth to the savior of mankind.
Paramount Pictures is distributing domestically with 20th Century Fox handling the movie internationally. “Deadpool” director Tim Miller is directing.

Tim Miller is directing the latest human vs. machine story, with James Cameron producing with Skydance.
Diego Boneta, who starred in Scream Queens and Rock of Ages, has nabbed a key role in the revival of the Terminator franchise and is in negotiations to join the production.
Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger are returning to the fold, while Blade Runner 2049 actress Mackenzie Davis is one of the new additions to the sci-fi action project from Paramount and Skydance.
Deadpool filmmaker Tim Miller is sitting in the director’s chair, while James Cameron producing and involved with the franchise for the first time since 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
Hamilton and Schwarzenegger are reprising their iconic roles in some capacity, while Davis is playing a soldier-assassin from the future.
Boneta's role isn't clear as details are being kept deep in the Cyberdyne vault, but he is said to be playing a human in the reboot that last week saw its release date move from July 26, 2019, to Nov. 22, 2019.
The Mexican-born actor made his feature debut in the all-star Tom Cruise musical Rock of Ages. He currently stars in The Titan, a sci-fi thriller with Sam Worthington that just hit Netflix, and next toplines Luis Miguel, Netflix’s Spanish-language biopic series that tells of the story of one of the biggest singers from Latin America and is set to debut April 23.
Boneta is repped by UTA, Grandview and Hansen Jacobson.

All joking aside isn't it odd or kind of fucked up that Edward Furlong's character is not in this movie?

Eh, the entire thing was about how "John Conner saves the future" or some sthick, which is why they've continuously came back in time to attempt to kill him. Now he's not even in the movies?
Well I guess the last movie pretty much ended his story line (and killed his future self) and reset the timeline to redo everything. So that's probably why. John Conner is no longer needed.
