How unbelievably painful for that family. Both women were bona fide icons in their own right.

My grandmother is such a fan of Debbie that she even named my mom after her. I was first exposed to her work in Charlotte's Web, then later as Grandma Aggie in the Halloweentown movies. She seemed like a kind and classy women... a true professional.

Reynolds was an advocate for mental health causes well before her daughter's public struggles. Also, her foresight in preserving and archiving so many classic Hollywood costumes and props is something worth applauding. It's a shame she never got financing to open the museum she had planned to showcase her collection.

A few days ago, I watched the episode of Oprah where she and Carrie appeared together. Debbie mentioned that she saw herself as a protector of her daughter and wondered who would fill that role once she was gone. Having her pass now makes that sentiment even more poignant. RIP.

I don't know what it is about the Internet and Social Media, but everyone tries to be a comedian with sarcastic remarks, and they fail 99% of the time. I can't tell you how many people I have unfollowed on Twitter because all they do is post 'unfunny' comments about pop culture, political and sporting events.

I honestly don't know what 'lighten up' means because the joke wasn't funny. The girls mother and grandmother died and your idea of humor is '3 for 1 deal for a funeral.'

This is going to be a rough watch.

Oh, I'm not taking anything away from Reynolds. Of course her death would make news regardless - I just said that it wouldn't be as big of a news item as it was if her daughter wasn't Carrie Fisher and didn't die the day before. Let's put it this way - Reynolds death was the top story on many TV news programs in Canada. Liz Taylor wasn't the top news item when she died, nor was Marlon Brando or many other celebrities around that era when they died.

RIP Debbie. I saw her in "How the West was Won" and "Mother". I never actually seen "Singing in the Rain" I think its time i finally watch it.

My first exposure to Debbie Reynolds was as a kid of 7 or 8 when I watched Charlotte's Web. I cried my damn eyes out at that movie and wanted to know who the singer for Charlotte was. When I found out, I discovered Singin' in the Rain and her other movies. How The West Was Won was a slog to a kid, but I really appreciate that movie now as an adult.

I just know that in every role i saw her in I felt like she'd be cool to hang with and just talk about fun shit. I loved her as Liberace's Mom, Grace's Mom, etc...

As a child of the '60s and '70s, I knew Reynolds mostly as a frequent Talk Show guest and for her Variety Show appearances. Carrie was first mentioned (mostly by her mother) because she had what was then considered a "raunchy" (for that time) role in "Shampoo" .

Bundle of Joy and Tammy and the Bachelor. Those are the movies where I fell in love with her. RIP Debbie. Eddie Fisher was a fool to leave you.

I know an actor can be much different than their onscreen persona, but it was hard for me to imagine "Tammy" knowing about such things.

I know Debbie felt later on that Eddie Fisher was never the ideal husband, but I would find it difficult to have a relationship with the woman that my husband left me for.

Regardless, from everything I've read, Fisher, Taylor, and Reynolds were pretty friendly with each other.

When I was 9, we went on a class trip to see HOW THE WEST WAS WON in Cinerama. I was pleasantly surprised by how Debbie Reynolds had the biggest part and the central role in the story, surrounded as she was by such formidable co-stars as James Stewart, Henry Fonda, John Wayne, Gregory Peck, Richard Widmark, and Robert Preston.

I just saw the Debbie Reynolds/Carrie Fisher 20/20 special that aired last night. It was really well done for something that ABC put together on relatively short notice.

I would say it was 3/4 a career and life retrospective of Reynolds and the rest was about Fisher.

If any of you missed it, it's on Hulu and probably ABC on demand. Definitely a worthy watch.
