Up-and-comer Remy Hii (“Crazy Rich Asians”) has been cast in “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” TheWrap has learned exclusively.
Remy’s role is being kept under wraps.
“Spider-Man: Far From Home” is due in theaters on July 5, 2019, and features Tom Holland back as the teenage webslinger.
The film, which introduces Jake Gyllenhaal as the villainous Mysterio, will also be the first solo Spider-Man film to take the hero out of his native New York City. Jon Watts is returning as director.
And since its release comes two months after the still-untitled “Avengers 4,” expect the new Spidey film to follow the storyline set up in the forthcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero mashup.
Remy is currently a series regular on the Australian series “Harrow.” Previously, he was one of the stars of the Netflix series “Marco Polo.’ He will also be seen in Warner Brothers romantic comedy “Crazy Rich Asians,” in movie theaters Wednesday.
emy was born and raised in Australia and is of Chinese, Malaysian and English nationality. He broke out in the Aussie mini-series “Better Man” opposite David Wenham, Claudia Karvan, Bryan Brown, and Jordan Rodrigues. His performance garnered a nomination for Best Lead Actor in a Television Drama at the 2014 AACTA Awards and the Most Outstanding Newcomer accolade at the 2014 Logie Awards.
Remy is repped by Innovative and RGM Artist Group in Australia.
Sony had no comment.

In interesting point being brought up. How do you market and promote this movie when Spider-Man is technically "dead"?
You have to start putting out a trailer sometime in early 2019 and that trailer will air before Avengers IV comes out. So the trailer has to pretend that all is good in the Sony world and Peter is alive and well.
Yeah we all know that Peter will be resurrected, but it's going to be weird seeing how they market this.

Maybe they won’t do a trailer until May.

Personally, I can’t believe they are sticking with Tom Holland as Spider-Man. How can you let a person like this work on a children’s movie?

I hope something similar happens here, where they CGI Gyllenhaal's face enough so you can see it through the bowl.

I wonder if Doctor Strange will make an appearance in this one? Seems like a natural team with both of them being in New York. As of right now, Spider-Man is space doo doo.

Jesus Christ, the first three comments are just fucking gold in that Instagram post
Jake Gyllenhall: I just realized I'm not playing Spider-Man
Ryan Reynolds: I just realized I'm not playing Spider-Man either
Tom Holland: I just realized I AM playing Spider-Man
