re: Sequels you so badly want but will never get

I've always had a soft spot for The Beast Within (1982). It's far from great but it is unique and weird. Not David Lynch weird but strange enough for a 1980s 'mainstream' Horrorfilm.
I think a reboot would be Interesting, if they do it like a remake and sequel in one.

Maybe I'm not remembering correctly but I thought it had a very good reception when it came out.

I think they should gut the Gladiator name and make that movie happen. Dial down the energy and have John Hillcoat direct.

Lol. I helped fund it. It's filming now.

To echo others, I would love to see:

Dredd 2
Hellboy 3
and a Golden Compass sequel.

I would also like to see them finish off the Narnia series before the actors get too old

I loved TFA and will see all the new ones, but I can't help but feel it should be Episode 10, starting a new trilogy after 7,8 and 9 were the further adventures of Luke, Han and Leia. It would be so much easier to pass the torch on having had more stories with the original group.

The actors are far too old now, but I always thought this film deserved a sequel. Taking Tom Berenger's character into New York City, so he could be a fish out of water like Poitier was in the original.

Actually, that's not as big a problem as it sounds. The Pevensie characters dont' appear in The Silver Chair or the Magician's Nephew, and they're supposed to be significantly older in The Horse and His Boy. About 7 years pass between Dawn Treader and The Last Battle, although that probably can be stretched a bit (I don't think their ages are that critical to the plot of The Last Battle).

Definitely. There is plenty of material to harvest. I don't even mind a recasting if it makes it happen.

I knew there was a reason I liked you (beyond the book, which I am almost finished with!) ... we are the only two people in the world who think this. The movie wasn't that bad (yes, it had issues), the problem was Disney botching the marketing. Like M&C, plenty of material to harvest.

Just wait. Eventually you'll get an entire mini-series.

To answer your question, no. I would love to see it if it is as good as the original, but that never happens. In that same vein, Undercover Brother.

It would be a completely different style, but I'm game. I didn't care for the abrupt tonal shift, but what the heck.

With all the sequels, remakes, and reboots (particularly Star Wars), is this not the perfect time to make this happen?!

E.T. II. Would be interesting to see what could be done with a sequel. E.T. comes back and and befriends Elliot's son without his knowlege.

I saw both but, it appears, I was in the minority. Both are great films in their own right and neither should have a sequel.

So it would have been:

Episode I in 1986
Episode II in 1989
Episode III in 1992
Episode VII in 1995
Episode VIII in 1998
Episode IX in 2001

Too bad Gary Kurtz didn't stick around after ESB.

The original plan was 12 disparate sequels. Once they settled on a "saga" with Empire, the plan became following up with more from the same cast through another 3 films. The "another" Jedi mentioned by Yoda in Empire was originally going to be a previously unseen character, Luke's sister. Lucas eliminated this extra character and made Leia his sister so that ROTJ could serve as the end of the series.

I don't think the prequels were actually planned to be filmed at all until several years after Lucas "ended" Star Wars.

I think the prequels became a thing when "Star Wars" became "Episode IV: A New Hope."

When I was a kid, around the time ROTJ came out, it was known by my friends and I that there would be a prequel trilogy that covered Obi-Wan, Anakin, and the Clone Wars, and then Episodes VII-IX that would cover the next generation of Skywalkers, and the only characters that would feature in all nine were Artoo and Threepio. I'm guessing we read that somewhere circa '83 to '85.

The old twelve part saga is something that I don't think was ever fully developed; I think one of the films was to have nothing but droids, and another with only Wookies.

Lucas's vision for Star Wars was something that was always in a state of flux, from 1977 until he sold it to the mouse.

Also a 5th and 6th QUALITY TNG movie that properly gave a fond farewell for the cast and the 24th Century rather than the execrable Star Trek: Nemesis. I wanted to see Stewart's, Spiner's, Burton's ect. signatures on the big screen signing out a'la Star Trek VI.
