Holy shit, that is the exact same thing my wife said, and you're both spot on.

The first 2/3rds of the movie felt like one long trailer. Then it got fun for a little bit and ultimately fizzled out. It was loud, overstuffed, and under developed. But I have to admit, I did have fun watching it for some odd reason.

For anyone who has read the Batman GN "The Cult", this is a pretty significant scene.

I enjoyed it for what it was: a fun 2-hour film filled with colorful characters. The performances were mostly good (Joel Kinnaman lacked charm for Flagg) and although the villain wasn't great, she was at least on par with the weak ass villain in Thor: The Dark World, not sure that's saying a whole, however. All in all, it's a bit uneven but I had a fun time.

Saw it this morning - and all the bad reviews in the world wouldn't have kept me away anyhow.

I thought it was fun, and I was entertained from start to finish.

Re: Suicide Squad (Ayer, 2016) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

Saw it Friday night.

Will Smith and Margot Robbie stole the movie.

My quick review is that I'd rather watch these characters in a better movie. The editing was especially jarring. And the "faceless" foot soldiers sucked. I'd rather they fight actually people. Cultists or something.

Also the "dark" Enchantress effects were cool. When she went all m-powerful at the end, they got lame. And there was no reason to make her brother a big CGI creation. Could have easily stayed as a regular human-sized actor. Stuff like that made the whole thing feel messy.

I think this was the first time I actually enjoyed Jai Courtney in anything.

I also have to say, I actually liked Jay Hernandez as Diablo.

I agree with both. They were both highlights of the movie. Will Smith was good but he is the same damn guy in everything. I like Margot as Harley sometimes, but other times I felt she was trying too hard to be like the Batman:TAS version. Viola Davis was great as Waller. Pretty much all of the characters were good individually, just not great as a whole. While I enjoyed the movie, I didn't think it was great.

Well I had high hopes, then after the past weeks word of mouth and reviews I went in with low expectations. I left really enjoying it. It had flaws as mentioned (too much smoke in the climax, weird looking henchmen, Delevingne hip twirling as acting), but we enjoyed it a lot, and yes...even Jai Courtney. I have no love for Will Smith, but even liked him in the role of Deadshot. Harley was great and super hot. Had reservations about Letos Joker, but actually enjoyed it. Ledger is still head and shoulders better than anyone else though. One thing that bother me about Letos Joker is the lipstick smile. It just doesn't work. Needs work on that before the next outing. But I enjoyed him, and thankfully the look did not take too much away.

Oh, and it felt a little lazy once again at the end when Bruce gets given files on the Enchantress, Flash and Aquaman. These tacked on and lazy ways to introduce other characters are really awful in the DC movies.

Most of the actors were pretty good, but Leto's Joker was a huge letdown. He was just a low rent thug, not interesting or intimidating at all. Hopefully they recast for the next movie.

Thought it was entertaining but just ok. The lame generic supernatural villain (the brother, not Enchantress) dragged it way down for me.

Saw it Sunday afternoon and although it's not perfect, we enjoyed it a lot more than Deadpool.

That seems like more of a writing/editing/directing issue than a casting issue.

Leto himself wasn't pleased with the way his Joker came out.

And this would be my problem, as well. It seemed like a rather random choice based on the nature of the team. The finale was a bit too "Ghostbusters".

Interesting article by Brooks Barnes in today's NY Times on the marketing of SUICIDE SQUAD:

Question for those who've seen it:

Why did this movie cost $175 million? Do you see anything on screen that accounts for that budget?

50 million was probably salary alone.

Maybe they're going to save the joker footage for the batman movie.

Re: Suicide Squad (Ayer, 2016) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

Me and the missus saw it on Sunday morning in one of those comfy recliner chair theaters which I adore. Helps me deal with crowds too, but that's another story.

While the movie was never going to be Guardians of the Galaxy, it was quite enjoyable. I think even my wife liked it as she was laughing at nearly all of the Harley moments and then some.

For me personally, in addition to Harley Quinn, I really enjoyed Captain Boomerang and the film actually made me care about Diablo and cheer for him in the final moments which given the trailer I didn't think possible. The post-credits scene was pointless (they could have done a million better things) but the rest of the movie was excellent. The Joker parts were okay...at least they had a point and didn't detract from the overall movie. 4/5, easy and will buy on Blu-Ray.

Edit: One final thing, I actually loved all of the music and might go seek out the CD. (checks Amazon...$10 for Physical and MP3...not bad)

It's interesting that some of you felt the connection to Diablo. I thought the "new family" statement was forced and didn't feel earned, and thus I didn't care when he sacrificed himself.

Since people tend to compare this film to GotG, I keep comparing this scene to the "We Are Groot" scene, and as far as emotional connection, there is no comparison, in my eyes.

Referring to his performance, or that he was almost entirely cut from the film?

Totally. They only new each other for a few hours and now they're family? Psh.

I'm sure Will Smith and his huge ego had something to do with it.
