The heavy proton pack thing was beyond stupid, but unfortunately logical complaints got drowned out because both sides wanted to focus on misogyny. Yeah, some guys were being assholes about this movie, and one of them was Paul Feig. Having your director generalize about fans who might be on the fence was just a bad call.

I liked Jurassic World and Kingsman is one of my favorite action movies in recent years.

Jurassic World was one of the biggest pieces of shit I've ever seen. If the people who made it are 1/10 the assholes that the characters are then I can confidently say that movie was made by complete assholes.

I remembered something like that but when apparently it was a comment that came out more than a year before the movie came out, and it was in regards to a book he was writing about.

It’s so dramatic. Honestly, the only way I could ruin your childhood is if I got into a time machine and went back and made you an orphan.
You've been ranting at me and my cast for months with misogyny and insults. So go fuck yourself. Goodnight. #enough https://t.co/r3XNfWP68c

This was a Josh Trank level PR nightmare for the movie which is why he suddenly was scrambling to differentiate misogynists from fans with genuine concerns in every subsequent interview. But the lesson is to ignore vitriol, act professional, and don't tell the fanbase of a series to go fuck themselves.
Then you get stuff like this:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/TQ85g2Al1ZA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
And the bizarre parading of the original stars to reassure fans how funny the new cast is and how great the new movie will be. It was all very forced, manipulative and insulting to fans who had been spurned until Sony realized the mess they were in.

Its been just over a year since this movie and it already feels like its forgotten. Like it never happened.

Yeah, imo the thing with it is it isn't particularly bad or terrible, it's mostly just forgettable.
It was like a lateral move from Ghostbusters 2, it's just extremely different.

Not to get in to this again with you as with the Superhero movie threads, but since you cited the recent Game of Thrones thread weren't you the one telling me and others to stop complaining?

Well the thread only got bumped because someone saw the movie recently, it's not like debating whether the movie was mediocre vs terrible is any new discussion. Anyway, it was just a throwaway comment on my part and not intended to be taken seriously.

Truth be told, I didn't watch this yet.
I was never crazy about the original Ghostbusters either. I sat and watched the original one time, and the sequel a couple times. Really liked the original, but never revisited. And then I've seen clips here and there on TV for nearly 30 years (I was born in 1983).
My observation is that people hold Ghostbusters near and dear. And it was painful to see a so-so followup film. Like trying to put the two new Die Hard films in with the first three. Or Lethal Weapon 4. It can leave you feeling helpless. It happens with sequels.
I'll always look forward to whatever Feig has coming out next.
